I keep thinking the same thing.....but I wonder what happens if you ever had to file an insurance claim? Could you imagine the poor adjustor standing his head trying to figure out what he was looking at? I wonder if they would have grounds to decline payout.

MEV's pace of development is very high. I'd want to take a close look at the engineering of the X5 before offering it for sale. The Exocet that we're dealing with has undergone a complete CAD redesign and boasts dramatically improved stiffness over the original.

At the moment, we're just concentrating on the Exocet. If you want more info on the X5, check out the MEV forum. There's a build diary in there as well as a download link for the manual.

I have read every single thread and followed every link I could find on it. I do not feel like there is enough info on it to even consider spending the money on it. I am VERY interested in it and I hope you guys keep an eye on it and offer it for sale if its worth it. Thanks for your response and insights.

I also have two NB's and I wouldnt want to buy an NA just to convert it. So far, it seems it is only for NA's.

An excocet looks nothing like lotus 7

As someone who has a Lotus 7 replica in the garage, I agree that they do look different. However, "nothing like" is stretching it. They're both basically open-wheel cars with a cigar-shaped body, no top and very little styling. An Aztek looks "nothing like" a Lotus 7.

And really, it doesn't matter what you or I think. If the state says it looks like a Lotus 7 and thus you can register it, then you agree it looks like a Lotus 7 and you take your registration with a smile.

The NA and the NB are so similar that I have a hard time believing the X5 would only fit one. All of the important parts are interchangeable. I suspect they're being built out of NAs in the UK because those are cheaper. But at the moment, we don't have any interest in the X5. We're interested in supporting a few quality products and supporting them well, not throwing every Stuart Mills fever dream into the catalog.

MEV X5
I have to say I don't really get the X5.

I mean, it's a body kit. It retains the stock body entirely, and just adds some new panels. So, more weight, more ugly, more... I dunno.

Am I missing something?

Keith@FM 09-04-2013 11:28 AM

Ah, didn't realize it was a body kit. I thought it was a spaceframe with a body on top. So yeah, it would be generation specific in that case.

They claim reduced weight. I just want a coupe and it seemed like an easy way to get that considering I already have two NB's. That said, Keith has proclaimed he doesn't like it and won't carry it, so my thread drift can end.... here.

Well I would talk to at Exomotive - US Dealer of Exocars & Kit Cars | US Home of the MEV Exocet, MEVSTER, Eco-Exo, Eco-Exo-R, MEVX5, and DBR1 Kit Cars instead of FM about getting one. As those are who FM gets the Exocet from. So in the future, just because FM does not carry it does not mean it won't be available.

Keith@FM 09-05-2013 03:57 PM

Definitely. We're not looking at carrying it, but Exomotive will likely bring one in for you.

Figured you might be interested - here's a complete Sport kit with the optional wing mounts.

Whats the sticker price on that picture? Was it all on one pallet?

Keith@FM 09-05-2013 09:35 PM

$6699 plus $400 for the wing mounts. It was all packed inside the frame on the pallet in the picture.

The owner came on http://www.mx5nutz.com to tout it out. The entire forum came to the same conclusion. It's an uglier and heavier version of an MX5, utterly pointless.

He's not been back since.

Because it's interesting. Westfield vs Exocet. The Westfield does not have the roll bar installed, and the floors on the two frames ARE level.

That exocet looks FAT,
Whats the weight of both complete vehicles?

You can put Miata seats in an Exocet, don't even think about it for an Exocet :) But yeah, quite a difference in both design and size.

Final weight is roughly 250 lbs heavier for an Exocet, I think. We haven't done an apples/apples build yet, but we have some data from our Westfield that should be comparable to our Exocet when it's done.

More.

Any reason you guys went with the sport version over the race version?

Keith@FM 09-10-2013 04:24 PM

Because we didn't know the details of the Race version at the time we placed our order, and once we found out it was too late to change it.

Although for the use this car will see, the Sport version is still a good choice. It'll never see wheel-to-wheel action, it's a demo car, and we'll be loading people in and out on a regular basis. Most of our Miatas run roll bars instead of cages.

Here's a cool comparison image I just got from the design engineer. It shows the Base frame (silver) with the Sport (yellow) and Race (red+yellow) additions.
