Well i decided to go all motor but my reasoning is obviously not for power. Having the last two cars that I owned being turbo'd, (FD3S and 95 Rpkg FM turbo'd miata) ill always be a turbo guy at heart and as an NA guy now, I will always openly admit that going turbo is just the best route to go. However as im getting older, ive learned to control my boost addiction. As my miata is my only dd, and having a round trip of almost 100 miles a day to and from work, the simpler the better for me. The less variables to go wrong is what I need now. In time, ill get another miata, build the motor, and boost the hell out of it :)

And header will kill any power on a stock motor. Keith Tanner put some 11.0.1 compression pistons, and a fully valve trained upgraded, ported 99 head on that car to get those gains. So while its a nice header, it would be a waste for them to mass produce it IMO because I doubt theres that many folks with a fully built N/A miata ;)

I don't understand how this would kill power on any motor with a lower compression ratio than 11:1 It looks like its pulse linked, which just relieves pressure in the exhaust really well. How that would kill power in a stock motor is a mystery to me.

Well, maybe on the stock ecu I could see problems arising, but I have a standalone. Damn.

N/A produces modest numbers, but the fuji racing miata in its earlier days ran a 13.9 quarter mile with only a set of itbs, a standalone, a stock block and a 99 head. Now its got those same 11:1 pistons, cams and the whole nine yards and it has a dynoed 171whp. With that 171whp it holds a track record at VIR patriot, and routinely beats 400hp evos.

Not to say turbos aren't awesome though, I bet if he had put 10:1 pistons in it and turboed and plenum'ed his ITB's and boosted 8-12psi, it would be the quickest 250hp ever. I personally just started with a miata that already had 160k miles on it, and while it ran great, I didn't feel good about turboing. So some used ITB's came along, and while its probably not as fast right now as a turboed one, boy is it loud and awesome. :D

Edit: changed "the track record at VIR" to "a track record" obviously there's more than one. I believe jimmy said it holds the street tire class record or RWD street tires.

Ban!

N3v 12-25-2008 06:19 PM

um, no. I still rock a stock exhaust with no cat, its totally quiet at idle and cruising around town. It just sounds awesome when I crack the throttle; the sound is all engine. Seriously you guys are dicks. I keep saying that yes, turbos are fast, there's nothing wrong with turbos. I'm not bashing turbos or saying that my plans will produce more numbers. In fact, I wouldn't be saying anything about this at all if I hadn't been called out (for no reason other than UH THIS ISNT ABOUT TURBOS BAN) as soon as I started this thread. This thread was simply intended to perhaps get someone from FM's attention about what I was saying eventually without bothering them and perhaps merit a response.

Hi Im Simon 12-25-2008 06:31 PM

lol, your just an idiot for trying to argue anything about NA here.

i still dont get the point of having ITB's on a stock engine either.

oh boy, I know. I never wanted to say anything about it to begin with, but I'm definitely not going to say anything else about it. I will respond to your statements about ITB's, though.

Few people really understand the merits of ITB's, I think. You really need to drive an ITB'd car. I didn't really get what they were all about when I bought them, but the guy I bought them from got 140+whp on a stock motor with an exhaust. I decided to get them because:
- good price
- added HP without putting boost stress on my engine
- making the engine more efficient
- sounds awesome
- kickass throttle response
- not nessecarily only an N/A upgrade, its turbo-able

I went ahead and installed them when I finished my megasquirt, and I have a ton of fun with them. Nothing to complain about at all except the accel cable spring on them is mega stiff so nobody else can drive my car without stalling it a couple of times first.

When my high mileage engine finally pops, I'm either going to go high compression, or turbo the ITB's, I haven't decided.

And....lock. Hope you enjoyed your thread/stay. Bye

Hi Im Simon 12-25-2008 08:07 PM

1. I own an ITB car, i know exactly how they feel, but it's not a 4 banger.
2. good price? that's a joke right? 1500 = +10 hp your kidding me!
3. sounds awesome = that's a retarded reason to mod your car, if that's the case go buy underglow kits, or fake BOV speakers or something
4. kickass throttle response = throttle response is very iffy question. how much throttle response you get from an ITB is very questionable. getting ITB's is like cutting the throttle cable shorter.

hahaha, how cute, its like you think you're a mod :giggle:

ugh. don't need to tell me twice. I'll go back to my usual routine of occasionally posting in the megasquirt forum.

I don't see how men who drive naturally aspirated miatas take themselves seriously, come on.

-$1000 for 10whp is fucking gay
-wtf are you talking about?
-FI is substantially more efficient
-whoosh, phew, pop pop pop
-lighting the tires up in 3rd gear > throttle response that's as good as stock
-hey, you got one right

go back to your power-gay *******, ultra queer scat party forum. We're too busy getting laid constantly to give a shit about your life.

It came with sensors that I would need for a MS anyway, and an alternator. Not to mention the kit comes with a beefy dual-feed fuel rail and a really nice FPR. Its about the same cost/power ratio for a reworked head, and similarly shows even more results when you do other stuff to the car.

you would be better off getting a port and polish on the head. At least that way you could benefit from better spool and top end when you finally realize that a turbo is the way to go and anything that will not compliment a turbo install is a waste of your money.
