Rick, Brain, Y8s, and distinguished gentlemen of Miata turbo!
As my clipper docked this morning, a supermodel asked me, "Where are you bound for, sir Hustler Esq.?" And when I replied, "Miataturbo," she remarked, "Beautiful place. Have you ever been there before?"
No human being could fail to be deeply moved by such a tribute as this [moderator-ship]. Coming from a lineage of genetic pedigree, and a people I have loved so well, it fills me with an emotion I cannot express. But this moderator-ship is not intended primarily to honor a personality, but to symbolize a great moral code -- the code of defense and protection of those who guard this beloved forum. That is the animation of my incredibly large endowment. For all eyes and for all time, it is an expression of the ethics and purity of the MiataTurbo members. That I should be integrated in this way with so noble an ideal arouses a sense of pride and yet of e-thuggery which will be with me always
Miatas and Kitties: Those two hallowed words reverently dictate our creed, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying points: to build turbo Miatas; to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith; to play with a laser among your kitties when hope becomes forlorn.
Unhappily, I possess neither that eloquence of diction, that poetry of imagination, nor that brilliance of metaphor to tell you all that they mean.
The unbelievers will say they are but words, but a slogan, but an admission of flamboyant homosexuality. Every pedant, every demagogue, every cynic, every hypocrite, every troublemaker, and I am sorry to say, some others of an entirely different character including rogue administrators, will try to downgrade them even to the extent of mockery and ridicule; hence the imminence of Philip's threat among your great leader of our kingdom.
But these Miatas and kitties build your basic character. They mold you for your future roles as the custodians of the turbo Miata. They make you strong enough to know when you are weak, and brave enough to face yourself when you are afraid. They teach you to be proud and unbending in honest failure, but humble and gentle in success; not to substitute words for actions, not to seek the path of comfort, but to face the stress and spur of difficulty and challenge that is both adopting kitties and campaigning turbo Miatas in feats of extreme speed; to learn to stand up at the track but to have compassion on those of structurally failed pre-built turbo kits; to master yourself Miatas before you seek to master others; to have a kitten that is clean, wheel horsepower that is high; to learn to tune, yet never forget how to wrench; to compete in Miata Challenge; to be serious yet never to take yourself too seriously; to e-thug newbs to a degree that you inflict the same embarrassment and shame you once received as a newb, the open mind of true wisdom of Joe Perez, Brain, Y8s, and DIY, and the meekness of our humble home of shenanigans and buffoonery. They give you a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a freshness of the deep springs of life, a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of an appetite for adventure over love of ease. They create in your heart the sense of wonder, the unfailing hope of what next, and the joy and inspiration of life. They teach you in this way to be an officer and a gentleman.
Everything else in the tenure of MiataTurbo membership is but corollary to this vital dedication. All other forum-whoring purposes, all other arcane forums, all other force-inducted needs, great or small, will find others for their accomplishment. But you are the ones who are trained to wrench and tune. Yours is the profession of information, the information to win, the sure knowledge that in MiataTurbo there is no substitute for victory; that if you lose, the forum will be destroyed; that the very obsession of your Miata service must be: schedule 40 manifolds, Inconel, and Megasquirt.
Others will debate the controversial issues, turbo vs. supercharger, which divide men's minds; but serene, calm, aloof, you stand as the forums's war-guardian, as its lifeguard from the raging tides of censorship and political correctness, as its gladiator in the arena of battle. For a century and a half you have defended, guarded, and protected its hallowed traditions of liberty and freedom, of turbocharged forced induction of Miatas.
Let rogue administrators argue the merits or demerits of my leadership role; whether my strength is being sapped by his lack of personality and inability to receive criticism, indulged in too long, by tyrannic paternalism grown too mighty, by power groups grown too arrogant, by past-forum-ownership grown corrupt, by morals grown too low, by his extremism grown too violent; whether our personal liberties are as thorough and complete as they should be. These great forum problems are not for your forum------dom or moderated solution. Your guidepost stands out like a ten-fold beacon in the night: Miatas, kitties, and kiss my *** Philip, ---- yourself with a rake. Its been 3-years since I talked ---- to you on a forum about your unreliable Audi and you're still crying about it. This is my forum as much as it's everyone elses but yours...because you sold it. Now please STFU and leave me alone.
