Honestly this was the impression I had of this place after lurking:

"Don't screw around, these guys know what they're doing/talking about and won't hesitate to call you out and/or ban you."

Anyone that doesn't pick up on that fast doesn't need to be here.
+1, there's a reason I've only done 78 posts in the year I've been lurking here

I'm for it. I like the idea that either by already knowing the answers or being forced to look them up we end up with more knowledgeable questions and critiques.

I wouldn't be for anything related to post count. Look how many n00bs already try to spam their way to the 10-15 posts they need to PM or post in the classifieds.

Well, my bad, I just found the page, You still have to click on what forum you want, and read the stickys. Just like here.

But it filters all the searching for you.

Here is the post anyway. The post just combined what everyone was tired of reposting.

I will agree in the last year this place seems to have soften up. Miataturbo at one point was for miata what NABR is for the DSM. A place were anyone who is not a member views it as an elitest, ***holes who knew what they were talking about and don't take ****. The only difference is that anyone could join MT but step out of line and your ban. I also miss those days.

I like Y8s' idea.... would work to do the test, and if you fail, you're re-directed to miata.net!

I liked it earlier, but Philip didn't care for me too much and I probably wouldn't be here today if he were still here.

Uhm, his signin name was Philip. You remember, the guy who owned this place before selling it to Dr. Claw?

Probably before your time .

I wouldn't base it on post count. I've been here longer than many that have a higher post count but I'm not a post *****. I only post when I need to and offer advice when I can.

Before your time, his sign in name was Phillip. He used to own MT.net.

I clearly am not sending people away over to the Gary farm.

There is no easy solution because every forum ends up like this.

The best of the best / exclusive site with tons of knowledge is a great thing, newbs show up and always avoid the search function... search is like some sort of incurable STD from Joe.

Public ridicule may work better around this place.

I vote for a subscriber only section.

Brilliant way to also get the forum to gain subscribers, and its a great way for us to keep the idiots out. If you can spend 3 bucks a month on a subscription to learn, then you probably wont be an idiot.

Well, a while back they (the mods) were asking us to cut the public ridicule/BS. Basically, to stop being so harsh on the newbs. Cause we were running them all off. Understandable I suppose.

But now we've got too many bad newbs. So something needs to be done. Used to be when a newb came here and acted inappropriately they were banned. Now, things have softened up a bit too much.

While having a test sounds cool on some level, it's probably not the best answer. Neither is a VIP section. In fact, that would just make the rest of the forum worse. We don't need another subforum for technical stuff that's hidden from the newbs. Thats the **** they need to see to illustrate what this site's all about.

I think a few smaller things need to be changed to get things back a bit better. I won't say how to do this, but I think this is what needs to happen:

We need to better convey to the newbs that this site is for technical discussions/finer aspects of turbocharging miatas.

We need to update the FAQs and whatnot to be a bit better. While they are good, they are not all inclusive. I'd say they could be better on a few different levels. (I think a thread about this would be great, as I have a few suggestions.)

We could cut back on some of the BS ourselves. There's quite a bit of it. I think it's dumb how some "members" here basically post nothing but F/S ads and comments in the BS section, or threads in the BS section. But never answer legitimate questions for newbs or comment in technical discussions. Basically never contribute. In my eyes, that's a worthless member. I could name a few...

I could also see a stickied thread on "How to Not get banned" with all the details being mildly effective. It could have several examples of what NOT to post, etc. Anytime a newb starts a, "oK I'm gonna turboz with my EbAy kit yo how manY boost????" thread every member here post that link in there thread. Then it's up to them to conform or get an attitude.
