Remove this M8 bolt to the rear of that sensor you removed, before you attempt to separate the case.

This is the area I’m targeting. That’s the sixth gear what’sy doo dad, and the rod sticking up through the casting is the whoosy-do.

Here’s where it sits on the inside. It’s above (towards the cabin) the 6th gear shift fork travel. I hope.

My 3D thinking says this is about the right place for the Ballenger sensor. It’s definitely in the fluid, yet should clear both the shift fork and whatever that other rod is. In theory. I will check this tomorrow after reassembly.

I believe that as long as the sensor is to the rear of this notch in the 6th gear shift fork (rear being “above” in this photo) it won’t interfere with the rod.

I’ll share the measurements tomorrow, but by my calculations, this area is in the fluid, clear of the shift mechanisms, and leaves room for a wrench on the sensor

I went ahead and drilled and tapped the hole.

This is the area I targeted for my sensor. It’s actually a bit upwards (towards the cabin) from where I had planned.

Drilled and tapped hole. I’ll share measurements after I confirm there’s no interference.

Here’s where the hole ends up inside the case, above the boss for the sixth gear shift rod, if that’s what this is.

Showing a broader orientation picture. The fluid level, by my reckoning (proof later) should be maybe around the bolt hole to the right of the pin.
