I did some googling, and it appears that there is software that will allow you to copy everything over. Most of it costs moneys.
But, I bet there is a free way to do it.

You can definitely manually copy over the game files. I used to do that with every reinstall because I didnt want to wait for steam to download everything.
But to make windows and other software just keep working and stay installed, you cant just copy them over. Thats what Im not sure about. I think it has to be a transfer of the disks image, not just moving files.

You can get a Western Digital Black 1TB for around 110 bucks. Pretty quick drive. Ive got one for my main drive, then an old WD Blue 1TB that is super slow, and its entire job is anime storage. Only about 200GB free at this point.

You don't have to. There are numerous utilities which can be used to make a complete copy of your boot drive (the OS, the registry, the apps, etc) onto a new drive. I use Norton Ghost, but there are many others, some of them free.

If you don't want to deal with having to change whatever pointers on your system currently refer to the second drive, you can split the new drive into two partitions, such that it still appears to your OS as two separate physical drives.

Ok, just did a small test using core temp gadget (looks great, btw).

12 tabs opened on chrome at once, 2 youtube videos and Project 64 playing.

Core temps spiked to around 49C (very briefly). Normal?

RAM usage very low

 

49° is on the cool side of normal so far as a modern GPU is concerned. My R7770 runs in the mid 40s when I'm tripping ***** in Pyroland at >100 FPS in 1920 x 1200. (The ole' GTX280 typically ran in the upper 60s to lower 70s, although that chip was notorious for being a power hog.)

If the core temps start getting up towards 80-90°, then I'd worry.

edit: wait, were you talking about the CPU? If so, that's still pretty average. The AMD guys typically idle in the lower to mid 50s. For a modern Intel chip, running temps in the upper 40s could be considered fairly average.

 

If you want some peace of mind, run Prime95 overnight. It's the computer equivalent of Hustler's dyno sessions.

Update: Seems to be running perfectly fine. It has started making some interesting "grumbly" noises recently. I have no idea what those are or if I should be concerned. Should I take the side off and inspect? And if so, what should I be looking for? Or is this something else altogether?

 

Thats nothing for an Intel. They can take a lot of heat before they break.

Thats what I was saying earlier. My AMD makes a lot of heat, and also cant take very high temps. So cooling is actually a problem.
Your Intel at stock clock with stock cooler will never get too hot.

I have a Phenom II x4 at 4.0Ghz with an H50 cooler. I idle at ~35C and peak at slightly above 50C when doing intensive stuff (compiling maps in Source SDK, compiling Video, or playing games for extended periods). If I was getting much hotter than that, it would be a problem, so it goes without saying that I have to be very careful not to let dust build up...

 

Just my 2c added to this: Intel's desktop chips can take a lot of heat in the short term (Hours, days) no worries whatsoever, but I have had bad experiences with a lot of heat on them over prolonged periods of time (Weeks, months).

YMMV here though - but in general, a lot of heat over a long period is a bad idea for PC parts anyways.

Read: If you aren't doing stuff 24/7 at 70-80-90C+ (In my case, overclocking on an extremely heavily used home server that really should have had it's duties split up with another server and not overclocked), don't worry about it. Intel's maximum temps allowed on their chips in the short term are typically something ridiculous, last number I remember offhand is like 105C.

ok guys, still running well.

I encountered my first "issue". Seems to be internet related. Sometimes my pages won't load unless I reload them a few times, sometimes once.

Also, I'm having an issue with a few websites that deal with image uploading. I'll click the "from computer" option and I get nothing but a loading bar. No pop-ups, no ad-block, etc...

Same goes for another website, only this time it lets me select the image from my desktop, but then it just does nothing. I click "open" and it just goes back as if I didn't select anything.

Not sure what's going on here.

Edit: Just did the simple task on my netbook. Worked fine. So, it's an issue with my desktop. I think I have aids.

Try installing the latest Java version. Then restart your browser and try to upload images again

 

Running on Wifi? Try reinstalling the wireless card drivers.

Also, how old is the wifi card... if you're using wifi?
