Console War

Anyone following this?

I'm like 99% a PC gamer... but I figured I'd check out a bit of information regarding the console war.

The Xbone is fucked.

It's priced higher than the PS4 by $100, had DRM up the ass, always on kinect BS, and about 100 other stupid things.

The PS4 is basically the opposite of all the stupid shit Xbone has.

Even if they were priced the same, the PS4 is way better. But now they released it at $100 less lol. Game over MS.

PC all the way.

I wasn't even thinking the xBone was their next gen console offering. Just seemed like a refresher that wants to take over your DVR.

I would like to pick up the ps4 for some of the release titles.

FRT_Fun 06-11-2013 12:12 AM

I pre-ordered a PS4 today. $399 I can't pass it up. Plus release day shipping is win on Amazon. I needed something to power my new projector, and I think the PS4 will do nicely. Sucks it isn't going to be released until Dec 31st though.

Haven't decided which game I want first though.

I think Steam already proved gamers don't care about always on or retarded DRM. The only good thing about a console is Forza/Gran Turismo.

Funny how my much faster computer with gobs more storage is quieter 2ft from my head than the 360 10ft from my head.

FRT_Fun 06-11-2013 12:57 AM

Yes but given the choice between something with no DRM, vs something with DRM... I choose no DRM + $100 less + better specs +++++++++++++++++

triple88a 06-11-2013 05:02 AM

So the choice is grand turismo, no drm, 100 bucks cheaper, better graphics engine, bigger hard drive standard, no used game fees, freedom to run it no matter how many people are in front of the tv, and better overall motion controls when u want the ps4 "MOVE" equivalent. Yeah theres no comparison between the ps4 and the xbox 1.

I'm not a console gamer, but as an officially registered Microsoft hater, I'm loving this.

Erat 06-11-2013 07:32 AM

I don't even think i have to say it.

PC all day.
I know every console gamer will argue this, i'm pretty sure i spend less money per year gaming on PC.

triple88a 06-11-2013 07:37 AM

Oh same here. I havent turned on my console in over a year if not more to play games. I use it for dvd here and there if i'm playing games on the pc.

FRT_Fun 06-11-2013 10:24 AM

I use to game on the PC, and think it's much better. Now I don't really game at all minus SCII.

But most of my friends are picking up the PS4 so I don't want to be left out :(

Braineack 06-11-2013 10:45 AM

I havent had a console since Turbo Graffix 16

phillyb 06-11-2013 11:16 AM

i just bought an xbox in february. first video game console i've owned since the original grey playstation came out.

after learning about xbone and ps4, it seems as if microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot!

Braineack 06-11-2013 11:19 AM

and plus battlefield 4 is about to come out, so what I really need is a new computer.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 06-11-2013 11:31 AM

Ill probably pick up a PS4 several years late when the price drops to nothing (just like I did with PS3), and that will be to play the few obscure JRPGs that will be exclusive to PS4.
Other than that, all PC, all the time.

The only thing Im exited about is that there will finally be some new graphic intensive games for PC. We have to accept that most games now are going to be console ports, so its in the interests on PC gamers that the consoles are as capable as possible.
As of right now, I havent seen any improvement in graphics for years. I havent had any reason to upgrade my 3 year old PC because it can still run everything pretty well with max graphics.

Assuming you are not illegally pirating software, I would be willing to compare costs with you.

My Xbox360 + games + my PC expenses over the past 3-5 years versus your PC expenses + games over the same time period.

If you are pirating all your software, then it's not a reasonable contest. It would be like comparing my clothes shopping bill to that of a shoplifter's.

It's hard to pirate the newer games if you actually want to play them.

I've been playing the same PC for the last 3 years now. That was $50 well spent. Although I did just purchase the expansion pack, so that should keep me going for a few more.

and that's why I'm a:

I buy all my games via steam sales for >60% off, or play free to play games (planetside 2, TERA, league of legends, minecraft, APB, tribes ascend, firefall, etc.) There are a few I payed full price for though, SC2, GW2, BF3. I hardly play any of the games I actually payed for anymore though, which is funny.

The PC build cost me about $400 about 2 years ago and it still plays everything I throw at it (maybe not on max graphics or whatever, but plenty awesome to enjoy).

thenuge26 06-11-2013 02:48 PM

Jack, for an idea how much I've spent in the last couple of years:

My steam account is worth over $1000 according to a Steam calculator. That is the new price of every game in my Steam library. I know I bought one pack for $50, and I've probably spent another random $50.

So that's 77 games for ~$100.
