Default 1.8 squeak help

Ok so I was on my way to an autox yesterday and my car started to make a squeaking sound. When I got there I tightened the belt and it didn't stop. It's not very loud and it sounds like it's either coming from the water pump or the powersteering pump. I don't know if any of gal have had this problem or not. It only really does It when the rpms are up and it's faint when it's idling

Use a mechanic's stethoscope to isolate. Or, take off PS/AC belt and see if it's still there. If I had to guess, water pump or timing belt idler/tensioner pulley. Probably time to do a WP/TB job. A kit from Rosenthal will take care of it.

Thanks man, I'm going to hold a screw driver or something up to it and see if I can hear it. I'm pretty sure it's the water pump but I didn't know if there was a bearing or something in the power steering puno that could go bad like a idler pully

There is a bearing in the PS pump. Problems there are rare.

Check the alternator too. I had a bearing go bad, but didn't find it will I replaced AC compressor and PS pump. +1 for the mechanics stethoscope or long screw driver.

Mechanic's Stethoscope

$2.99 * 0.8 = $2.39.

yea i need to go pick one up, harbor freight is right down the road from me. iv always used a big *** screw driver but its hard to determine the sound because your other ear is still open but anyways, it sounds like its coming from the middle of the engine so thats why i came up with the water pump. but thanks for all of the help
