1.8L Engine rebuild. What all do I need?
The guy I'm picking the motor up from says he's already got crank and rod bearings.
I obviously need rings, valve steam seals, valve guides, but I'm not sure how many/what gaskets I need.

That kit looks like it's got pretty much everything I need. Does anybody have any experience with that kit or know what's missing/included?
Thanks
Brian

then just buy a used engine. its much cheaper than building one. There is no point in going to the expense of building a motor unless your looking for more power. After you have bought the gasket kit, you will still need at minimum piston rings and probably pistons, then spend about $1k on machine work, dont forget things like water pump, timing belt, and a new oil pump would be a really good Idea since you have it apart...

I'm getting a spare motor that had 96K on it. I'm just rebuilding it for peace of mind. My motor's going to get the goodies when I have the money to rebuild it.
Looking at finishlineperformance I've got the gasket kit $225(assuming it comes with valve cover, head, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, cam seals, front crank seal, rear crank seal, EGR gasket, valve guides and seals, water pump, oil pump), timing belt kit $99(belt, idler, tensioner)
A set of rings is going to run ~$100, cleaning the block is ~$50, honing is $100, water pump's ~$50
Does this sound reasonable for a stock rebuild?
