323 GTX help
anyone on here know a bit about the GTX??
im looking at one and currently it has a bent rod. is the motor the same as the 1.6 miata engine or slightly diffrent? any one know of any forums or sites dedicated to the GTX or have a section for them?

Yes it is very similar to a 1.6l Miata motor. A cheap motor fix is to install a 1.6l motor out of an Automatic miata for the lower compression. they can be had for cheap. Swap everything over from the GTX (turbo, manifolds, oil pan, oil pump, cams, valve cover, clutch, pulleys, and a whole bunch of other doodads I can't think of right now from your busted GTX motor and it will work in a GTX.

It's cool to see that the old yahoogroups group is still a great source of info. I owned one for about 5 years and that list saved me so much time and money. Great people indeed. I hated selling my GTX and I find myself regretting it often. Fun little car for sure!

I kept the hard top but in a fit of stupidity I traded that miata for another GTX. It’s going on a couple years now and I haven’t fixed the transmission in that GTX I traded for. It has just sat I need to sell it really.
I have another one that I drive on a regular basis. Sort of a daily driver. It runs strong with a chipped ECU and handles really well with some basic suspension tweaks I’ve spanked allot of cars at autocross with it.
Then I have a friends GTX that has lived at my house for the last 4 years. It has a built 323 GTR drive train swap puts out about 300hp to all wheels weighs 2600 lbs and I have fit 15X9" wheels on it with 225 tires. It is a beast. Fun as hell to drive but compared to the GT3071R turbo on my miata the stock VJ23 that is on it is a laggy thing. I had the two turbos apart side by side The stock turbo Mazda put on that beast has a bigger turbine wheel than a GT3071. Power comes on all the sudden and will surprise you. The AWD keeps it from swapping ends pretty well though when it does hit boost.

Funny I bought a 91 Miata that ran and came with hard top once for $700

This summer I was looking hard for one to replace our Integra because it's a piece of junk.

The GTX was fun, but it did require some fiddling to keep it a daily driver. I actually kept my entire toolbox in the trunk all the time and had a pair of workpants in case I had to crawl under it.
I started keeping the toolbox in the car after one Thanksgiving day I was in DC (3 hours from where I was living) meeting up with a friend when my driveshaft bearing seized. The only thing open was a gas station where I bought two adjustable wrenches. I removed the driveshaft completely, locked the diff in 4WD and drove around with a FWD GTX for several weeks while I located the only spare driveshaft I could find in the country (in a junkyard in Washington state). Fun times.
I did meet up with some other GTX owners at the Susquehanook Trail Pro Rally in Pa. one year. There were 6 of us there. Being from Ga. I had only seen two other GTX's on the road ever so it was fun to get a pic of 6 of them together.

1988 MAZDA 323 GTX TURBO,VERY RARE&HARD TO FIND LILCAR,FA$$$$$$$T
the guy emailed me back and wants 3k for it.. idk if thats a good deal for someone else but to me a non running 22 yr old car that isnt in mint shape isnt worth 3k. plus i dont have 3k for a DD anyway.
