check out my 1.6 build. megasquirt china 2870 turbo, e85, 1000cc, slightly ported stock head, stock intake manifold,cops, 949 rods, supertech 8.8:1 pistons.
324rwhp @ 20psi on a freshly built motor. Would easily make 350+ after my motor was broken in but got lazy.

I have the chance to have an exteremely good port/polish and built head with a pretty similar bottom end and everything else you did is what I planned.

Nope, my motor's rings werent completely seated yet. If i decided to re-tune after another 2-3k miles Id have another 25+ hp from just my rings breaking in completly.
but remember i was using stock head valvetrain and intake mani, a nice set of cams would have bumped my spool and hp+ significantly

Well I hope to see this through. I have plans of a similar build. The higher compression should really help with the spool and torque deficient the 1.6 has.
Not a miata but a good example of the much broader power band due to the higher Cr.

Here's another example of back to back low compression vs high compression supercharged mustang engines. Yeah it's not a miata, but the benefits of high compression are made very clear through the back to back dynos.

I have hopes of doing something similar once I have some spare cash laying around. I've collected too many parts to want to deal with a part out and a switch to a BP. Figured I'd try my hand at a DIY port/polish job. Grabbing a spare block this weekend, but it won't be going in for awhile. Just trading some parts I have for it. It's already bored and has 10:6:1 supertechs in it. As far as parts I have the t3 itB adaptor, blacktops, and a sheet metal plenum as well as ATD cams already in the motor. Water injection is in the plans for now once the new block goes in.
We'll see how it comes together once I can afford to throw it all together and have some cash aside for when it blows up haha. I'm not planning anywhere as much power as you though, I just want a very responsive 1.6 with some ***** to it. The 14psi out of my 15g will be enough until I decide to upgrade. Then I was thinking along the lines of one of the .48 "gt3076" godspeed turbos. It's not nearly large enough to be a real gt3076, but more along the lines of a real Garret gt2876. Should be a good upgrade without too much lag.

I can't believe this **** was a year ago almost. I still have the 1.6 and I've already spent a ton of money on the motor and still have plans of ~20psi out of a T04E with 1000cc injectors and E85. Here is what has taken shape so far. Gonna start out with my bone stock motor, see how long it lasts put in another stock motor and then build my longblock.
Buttoning up some turbo kit stuff, just had my intake manifold cleaned up and all the unnecessary ports deleted. once the driveshaft and other things are taken care of The car will be wired and tuned, with hopefully positive results.

yeah, my justifications are as follows:
I can't justify the money for a GTX turbo yet because it doesn't matter how nice of a turbo I have if I'm going to just explode my motor. I also don't want to run the risk of running metal through a very nice turbo. So once I've built the motor I will shell out the money for a 2876/3071 GTX and call it a day.
Hence why i started this thread looking for motor building suggestions and only being met with get a 1.8. I know its stupid and it isn't tried and true but it's just what I chose to do and I don't mind throwing the money at it obviously.

It was given to me pretty much as is a series winning competitive (drift) car. The car came with everything minus driveline and seats. So I took my turbo 1.6 and put it in and then threw a bunch of money at it.
I'm not a big fan of Honda swaps even though they are reputable motors. So I kept it a Mazda swap but have her pistons instead.

So I finally got this whole thing together.
Making roughly 350 on a stock motor.
T04E, 23 PSI, E85, bell intake manifold, v mount, AEM EMS-4, etc. and clearly nothing but the finest of oils.

No, I'll get it on a dyno soonish just for you baby.
Made 200whp @10psi and 91 octane
Figuring 10hp per psi, and the e85, and the new manifolds I estimate being in that power range. Even 300 on the low side but I would be pretty sure it's more. The car pulled a gap on an ls1 s13 on the straight.
