Default 6-speed, what is this sensor?

Installing a 6-speed into the car today. I noticed the round black sensor with the wire in the photo. What is that for? I notice that the NA 5-speed has 2 plugs with wires, and this 6-speed has a plug similar to the 5-speed, then the round black one unlike the 5-speed. I want to know if it serves the same purpose as the plug on the passenger side of the 5-speed, so I know to cut and splice it for the wiring harness in my car.

i checked the 01 service manual for the 6-sp but it's impossible to tell what's what.

one is speed sensor
one is reverse light
one is neutral switch

it's gotta be one of the the latter two. and those are easy enough to check if you can jam a gear lever into the tranny.
