AirBag Sensor on NB - WHERE?
Hey everyone.
I'm reinstalling an airbag system in my car, and the computer was bad (got a replacement) and the bumper sensor is entirely missing (also got a replacement).
My problem is, I can't find the wire that goes to this sensor. The sensor sits bolted (with three bolts) to the back of the cross bar which protects the radiator and has the power steering cooling loop just under it. Basically, if all the plastic trim is out of the car, you can JUST see it from the wheel well.
I would really like to know what the connector looks like, and where the wire runs to (where does it join the rest of the vehicle harness?).
I spent a lot of money and time and I just want to get this project done! Thanks!
-Abe.
P.S. My car is a '00, but I think any NB will be the same, the computer I got came out of a 04 or something.

00s don't have a front crash sensor. So I believe what you are looking for doesn't exist. Only 01+ have a front crash sensor.
Also, I would imagine the control module would be different between the years as well, so the 04 one won't work for you. 99-00 have the crash sensor inside the module where 01+ have it up front.

Huh. Well, then I'm in bad shape, since... The computer I have expects it (it's from a later model) and I'm right back where I started.
You're pretty sure about this? I wonder if it's worth trying to retrofit one, I would assume not... Which means I have to go hunting for another airbag sensor.

Yep, pretty sure. Mazda changed the whole SRS system in 2001. they even have a occupancy sensor to activate the passenger air bag. I have the SRS system disabled in one of my NBs , but never pulled the dash to take out the control module. I am sure that it is a 0.001 of a pound I could be saving. But it is also an afternoon of my life(taking out the dash) I still have.

Yes, but in exchange for that afternoon, you could get my undying gratitude.
Sigh. So now I have to either fine the '99-00 sensor, or find the wiring harness and seat switch and more from the '01. Which would be worse.
Hmmm, back to see who was willing to sell me a '00 computer. Someone also suggested changing the clock spring, who'd have thought fixing the airbag would be the biggest project I ever did on the car?
