NAPA THM 42 - 160* thermostat - NAPA AUTO PARTS

I used the 160 and now I use the 180. Either works well and my car always warms up very quickly.

Right, I get that, but is it because it needs it or because they just want them to run cleaner?

BTW I briefly ran a 180* stat on my previous '00 with re-route, and it also took forever to warm up and water temp gauge would actually fall back down to C as soon as I started driving in the morning. It was terrible.

So I don't recommend a 180 stat.

I'm running a 180 degree Stant (13868 $3.08 @ rockauto) on my 2000 w/ Aluminum Mishimoto radiator.
On the freeway at 70mph it settles at 188 in cool weather (70 degrees) w/ no A/C on, and around 205-210 in 100+ degrees with the A/C on. Only reason I run the 180 vs the stock 195 is it's more clear when the capacity of the cooling system is being overcome (if it's reading 215 I know it's def in overheat mode, where with the 195 stat, 215 is a "maybe" overheating condition).

I need to work on my ducting for better efficiency with hotter temps. I'll start caring when I get the turbo/intercooler in.

There is no reason, really. IMO 180 is the minimum for a street car because it allows oil to come up to temperature. 160 also makes your heater.... less heat-y.
