Anyone using them?

Just curious if you buy them and then order the GC Springs? Their site listed springs @ 59 a pair

 

I use ground controls (700 & 325 lb F/R)

I like the perch they come with (the "limited edition" with the allen wrench lock screw) so idk if I'd give that feature up to save money. It makes cornerweighting a lot easier.

 

I'm using some $30 no-name ebay coilovers. Never thought about changing just the springs.

They did make my ride a little harsher, with 450lb/in in front and 350lb/in springs in the rear, but I'm happy with the better handling.

I was disappointed that the "4 inches of adjustability" isn't able to lower my car over 3/4". I've thought about raising them all the way up if we get a big snow storm, 3 1/4 inches of lift:gay:. My car is a '96, so it began higher than the earlier NA's.

 

Totally not in the same price range but if you want to look to a cheaper "Full" coilover check out the Ksports listed on Ebay. Under $800 a set for a Tein Flex style coilover. Once you have all your travel back you won't be able to tollerate it any other way. I am going to sell the H&R's on the Gti and give a set a shot.

 

Oh yeah, and FatCatMotorsports tophat/bumpstop combo should be considered too, you get some travel back (or you could use them to lower the car about 1"-1.25" using stock everything else)

 

I've got 'em and the springs are way stiff at 300R and 400F. I was going to move the 300s to the F and get something like 225s-250 for the rear. I've got them on bilsteins. As with any shock and a threaded sleeve, you need a good stop for the sleeve to sit on. The fit perfectly on front shocks, but on the rear they're a little loose. So I sat them on the original R spring perches until I can find a bigger clip.

SamS- I believe you can remove that perch on those AGXs. I saw them on a Miata racer that has GC coilovers on it. That would net you another 1" of adjustability.

There was another perch that I did remove before installing, I'm not so sure the one in my pic is removable. If so, my springs would slide to the bottom of the shock body.

 

Boys, I'm tellin you. Its hard on the pocket, but hot damn. TEIN FLEX. By far, the best thing I have bought for my car becides the turbo.

 

sorry koto- 400# springs in the city is a formula for bending wheels with the steel construction plates and potholes in the road. I don't see the point in running springs so stiff on the street- that's what the race car is for.

SamS- I'll check on those perches and post back.

 

I saw no way to remove the stock spring perches on the KYB AGX shocks when I had my fleabay coilovers on the car. I bought a set of 450F/350R's off fleabay for ~$40, ran them for ~6 months then threw down ~$650 on a set of Tein Basics and ~$80 on a set of NB upper mounts.

No comparison. Never looked back.

 

i dont think i have heard anybody ever complain about tein coilover systems.

 

I plan to go tein or ksport coilovers when I swap out my my stockers.

 

I searched on Miata.net about the ksports, and it seems that many people were underwhelmed ... i.e. the shocks started leaking prematurely or something like that. Basically they were good until they started to suck

 

I guess that could be said of any product, huh?

 

I think what most fail to realize is that a shock valved to work with a 200# springs is going to suck with a 400# spring. That's the BIG advantage of buying the shock/spring/coilover package- they're designed as a package. I've raced a Miata numerous times that's running agxs with 500/350 springs and it's a bouncing-bump-stop-stomping ride at best.

 

man, i am getting scared that i wont bealbe to make my car look normal, i am still peiceing it together but as right now i have about a 6 inch wheel gap above the rear wheels, car is about 1800 pounds and has every major peice installed so far. will i get to beable to make it look normal on a g/c koni setup?

 

I was thinking Ebay Coil overs, order some GC springs, AGK's and either a RB or FM front bar, w/ FCM Bumpstops.

I think m2cupcar has the right idea one one would need to spend 59 on a set of 250 lb springs? and use the lighter evilbays for the front?

What didn't you like about the Evilbay Coil overs? The spring rates?

Also I remember reading about someone who wrapped shock in a tire inner tube for a better fit w/ the evilbayers, that or amking a metal sleeve sounds pretty reasonable to me

 

One correction... I think the Eibachs are 59.00 ea = $118 on the GC site.

 

There is a company called AMR that offers a Ksport/D2 Style Coilover that I think I have decided on. They are based out of Washington State and offer a lifetime warrenty and your choice of spring rates. I am pretty sure this is the way I am going to go.
