Anyone done a low pro projector setup?

I've been looking for quite some time and haven't been able to find anyone doing a low profile headlight with projectors. I see low pro retrofits or a standard projector setup with a 7" headlight. Has anyone seen one or does it seem it may be to cramped with projectors?

Reason I ask is I did about 400miles of driving last night and my stock lights suck. A friend has a 91 with a low pro retrofit and not only did it look nicer it was much brighter for not being projectors. I want to mix match the two if possible, not sure if anyone here has done it or a link to one with a parts list/guide. Figure I may buy some morimoto minis and try much luck at it. Any help is appreciated.

mazda miata mx-5 low-profile headlights - www.duettomotors.com

Another alternative would be to replace the stock sealed-beam headlamps with Hella E-code housings and H4 bulbs: Susquehanna MotorSports - Auto Performance Product

I've been running those on my cars for 5 or 6 years now. Excellent quality, good pattern, and cheap.

Ops I missed the general miata thread, can someone move this lol

I'm looking more for a diy Joe, any help?

I just did the Bosch H4 conversion, and it's a huge improvement for less than 65 bucks and half an hour time spent.

I will have a write-up on my DIY as soon as the parts come in.

I ordered some 6x4 headlights and a Morimoto Mini H1 kit listed Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

The kit is on sale, plus the coupon I had helped me save over $100 on this kit :fawk:

I too run the 7" hella E codes, along with some shitty 4" round H4 lenses in the mouth area (so I run 4 headlights & 4 high beams), which make a little difference on dark back roads.

Are the Moss units projectors? There's no mention of it on the website.

rleete 11-26-2012 12:15 PM

Not unless they've changed them in the past year or so.

TurboTim 11-26-2012 01:29 PM

The photos show projectors, but no mention of it. When they first came out, they included projectors just like the pic. A few of the local Miata guys bought them. I haven't seen a newly purchased Moss kit in many many years though.

The Moss/Duetto low-pro headlights are both the same, made by Cobalt. Two of the light assemblies are Hella halogen projectors and like TurboTim said they have been that way since they came out. I had them on my '95 and they were definitely much better than the stock units in terms of lighting. I personally preferred the look a lot more as well. However, the price tag is a deterrent to most people, I was lucky and found someone that wanted to revert to stock to sell their car and sold me the setup for $150 + stock assemblies. But for someone who wants to improve the lighting for less money, the conversions above work great too.

You'll like that kit, it's the same one I use for 99-00 headlight retrofits. Great company with very good customer service as well.

The kit cost me $225 to my door with the better xb35 bulbs so it was a steal! I'm good with fab work so I will do all the mounting myself and give results. I just can't see myself spending $500 for projectors, that's nuts

You going to mount them so you have a low opening barndoor, or flush under lexan? Interested to see either way.

For someone looking to update to HID projectors without the trouble of also converting to a low-profile setup, I wonder if there's enough depth in the stock location to take something like this and gut it, using the housing simply as a mount for the new projectors?

Cheap way to get the benefits of improved lighting without having to modify the chassis or fabricate anything.

Low pro, a buddy of mine has a set and I fell in love. I just want to do a low pro projector setup.

Honestly I am unsure about this. I have thought about it but I would much rather try the low pro setup. I feel there wouldn't be much depth left and if any the projector may have to point upwards to keep from hitting.

Someone recently did a conversion using those or a similar eBay housing and posted it on one of the other Miata forums. IIRC he had to enlarge the bulb opening so that the projector sat far enough back to allow the lens to reseal on the front.
