I have this problem...I also had the issue of worrying about the weather since my car has no windows (except the windshield)...I'm working on fixing that (hardtop and new doors that aren't gutted) so I can at least drive it to work more often this coming up year.

Thats what I'm going with next time I need a dd. I LOVE my R32, the sound / speed / creature comforts, but I wish I had the extra doors...I would have gone with a 05 sti instead, but I couldn't get over the damn blue interior. In a year or two I'll be picking up a 2009 or 2010 so long that the issues they had in 08 are resolved. I happen to love its shape and the interior is decent. This being said, I'll still have the miata! I love owning multiple fun cars, each with their own purpose

+1

I'm solving this problem when I pass the 3rd part of my board exams. Hopefully in 18 months. E46 M3. I don't think the newer model will have dropped enough in price. I will refuse to pay 30k+ for a vehicle. Especially when my miata is so fun. My daughter will be almost 4 by then, but I the back sit will be good until shes about 10 I think.

You can pick up an 03-05 E46 M3 with about 50k for under 30k now. 03-06 is same car basically.

Oh, still not getting rid of miata though.

A car is a tool. If you take your hammer and make it into something that doesn't hammer anymore, it's not the hammer's fault.

What did you make your car for?

A Miata is the wrong car to choose for wanting to go fast in a straight line only, or showing off to friends. Get a Mustang for that.

A Miata is too small? Are you both 300 lbs or what? I don't get that.

A Miata is not a family car. It'll never have four seats. Get an EVO.

Really though. If your car rides too harsh, change the suspension. If the interior isn't nice enough, spruce it up. If it's too loud, dynamat it. If it's not fast enough, put a V8 in it. All your options are right there, I don't see any point for you to start this thread except to feel better about selling your car.

If your primary purpose is driving with other people, showing off to other people, and carrying other people, you bought the wrong car. The Miata is about the driver.

That was the first car that came to mind when you said: soft ride, decent interior, v8, etc.

I love subaru's. Absolutely love em. If I need something with interior space, 4 doors, fairly comfortable ride, and all that jazz I will absolutely get another subaru. Had 3 of them and LOVED every minute of it. They're relatively cheap, make damn good power with minimal bolt ons, sound great (imho), and a perfect "all arounder" for me.

Then again there's 100's of other cars that would fit your needs too......Miata's are great, but once it goes from being your "toy" or "weekend car" to something you need to use daily for things other than fun cruising, racing, or other fun stuff, they are just not practical. IMHO

My wife and I don't have children yet and don't plan to for at least a few more years, so I'm going to enjoy the **** out of my miata for now

I really dig the GTO interior, I think it's beautiful.

OP, why did you buy a car and then modify it into something you don't like? I mean, if it were a stock Miata we could just say "you bought the wrong car" and that would be it... but you changed it, with your time and money... into something you don't like. Before you buy or sell anything, I'd figure out why you did that first.

A Miata is about the driver. Modifying it makes it even more about the driver. This is, I think, why so many modified Miatas do autocross/track/rally/time attack/drifting... anything that will make the driver say "This, this is worth living for."

If instead of that, you want "a nice comfy car to carry my kids and wife without her complaining"... kinda the wrong place for you.

My car is still great when I'm alone. I think some of my recent issues have stemmed from commuting with my wife over the winter break in it to save on gas.

That and letting my little brother borrow it, and him telling me it took a quart of oil to get it back to the top hash after only 400miles of driving since I topped it off before he took it. This is bad.

Never loan your car or your tools to someone who won't respect them anyone.

well put!

I recently sold my 04 WRX wagon to fund my turbo Miata project. It was my autox whip for the past several years. I was extremely happy w/ the Miata beforehand, but it lacked the oompf that the wagon had....so now I've got the perfect car, thanks to TurboTim/Paul/Braineack and everyone else that helped out.

Our other family car is a Toyota Sienna minivan. We bought it new in 2008 for $21k out the door. It's a fantastic bigger car: room, great braking/accel, power side doors, handles quite well. I actually love driving it, even if it is a soccer mom vehicle.

If I were to buy another car as a daily driver, it probably would be another Subaru. IF I had the funds, an STI (2005-present). If not, a WRX, Forester, or Legacy GT would be fine. Working on them is a lot easier/cheaper than the EVOs for the most part. Power add ons are not as cheap as the EVOs, but labor should be cheaper if you take it to a shop.

Another fantastic car to consider is the Mazdaspeed 3. It's a blast and cheap to get extra HP (I think TurboXS' race pipe and mid pipe cost less than $500 and give you 70whp). That's friggin' a bargain. There is the torque steer issue...but the car is a nimble fun whip. And the interior is better than most other cheaper sportier cars. Better gas mileage than most Subarus too.

I love subarus but driving an e46 m3 was a hell of alot of fun and it would be a difficult decision. 04 STI ftw.

And no, this isn't in the ghetto itself.
