What type of lifespan can I expect with a set of Azenis?

 

About 10-12K depending upon how you drive it. Expect much less if it's mainly auto-x/track use or a super aggressive alignment.

 

Hmm, I don't think that's any better than my RA-1s then...
I'm looking for a 2 year or 20k tire that fits an 8" wheel. Any opinions on the Hankook RS2?

 

Oh, and these are street tires that might be driven in rain. I don't care about auto-x, and I'll probably get another set of wheels for the track.

 

THe old Azenis are awesome. But I dont know about the new ones. I easily get 10k with the old ones

 

You are probably looking at a Toyo T1-R for a ~20k sticky summer tire. Granted you'll always get some yahoo who said he wore a set of whatever tires out in 5k miles, but just for reference RA-1 have a treadwear rating of 100, while Azenis and RS2s have treadwear ratings of 200 (granted, I've read that you can often get anywhere from 2-3k more miles out of the RS-2 compared to Azenis, but I have no personal experience), and the T1-R has a treadwear rating of 280. Generally, T1-R should last around 18K or so and that's what my friend and I have seen on a few sets.

I will say though that the T1-R is not as grippy as the Azenis and has a sloppier sidewall, BUT it is better in the rain.

 

T1R seems like a good choice. I actually have a like new set in 195/50, but they won't stretch over the 8" wheel. :(

T1R in 225/50/15 looks like $125/ea + ship & mount.
I might just keep the RA-1s, though I'm afraid I'll burn through them fast.

 

I'm hope the new 225/45/15 R-1R will be out when it's time to get my summer tires..

My rear rt615's are toast after only 5k lol. Fronts are mint, they are good at the track but crappy on the street, my old st215's were much better in the dry (615's little better in rain imo) and lasted way longer. Wont buy another set.

 

What about 205/50? I have 205/50 Azeni rt615s on my 6ULs, they're nice, aren't stretched much by any means. If the 205/50s are very much cheaper you might as well get them instead.

I did 8 track days on my azenis and still not to the wear markers. You make more power, but there's no way anyone is driving harder than me on that tire. On serveral track days instructors and seasoned vets have commented that I'm always driving "at the limit."

The RA-1 or NT-01 will last longer on dedicated track use according to my sister's findings, and you don't get the greasy feeling when the Azenis overheats on the 3rd lap.

From the set I had I learned that it depends so so much on how the tire is driven. I was on the wear bars after just about 3.5k miles but I am a bit of a yahoo and I drive canyons daily. If driven normally I don't see why they would not last up to 10k.

And compared to some other tires, they were much grippier than my kumho MX, but those lasted longer. I like my current g-force sports as a street tire, plus they are very cheap (costco carries them), but still don't have the traction that the azenis had. But for me thats a good thing.

 

Ben, you'll LOVE the azenis but dont expect to get 10k out of them if you need to get at least 10k. They're way too fun to drive hard.

 

The miata is a light car... unless you burn out constantly they'll last over 10,000 miles. It took mine 12,000 miles on a slightly heavier FWD car before I considered them questionable on the street.

A better option IMHO is kumho MX if you can find them in your size. Mine held up a lot better treadwear wise even with autocrossing.

 

Ive had on a set of RS2's for over a year now, also on an 8" wheel, and the tread is about half way worn. I figure i can squeeze 20k miles out of these.

i use these as a daily driver, weekend canyon runs and i run something similar to the "lanny" alignment.
