Default broke the vvt cam gear dowel pin inside the vvt actuator on a 2005 miata

basically what the title says. i was replacing my timing belt and water pump and the kit came with both cam seals and i figured why not change them. well that's what i did i took the vvt cam gear out and noticed the pin was completely broken and part of it is still in the vvt actuator all mangled up inside

. i just want to know if i need to buy i new actuator or if its still salvageable

I would get a new cam phaser. You might be able to save the cam shaft.

Not sure how to deal with the VVT cam gear, but you should be able to get it out of the cam itself. I had to drill out one that was pushed too far in last year. Start with a super small bit and try to get it as centered as possible. Increase drill bit sizes one by one until it lets go and can just pull it out with needle nose.
