Don't remember what brand primer. Something common.
Black base was the $2/can QuickColor found at home depot.
Black texture was Rustoleum $6/can MultiColor Texture.

anyone want to powder coat em? I just got about 6 different sample books from powdercoaters in the area. Im thinking of doing a sample run on it, see how they do, and itll be free bitches. SAy my name.

My 1.6 cover is black with red painted recessed letters. I was thinking about sprucing it up a bit too. I was actually considering spraying it black again and dripping red melted wax into the concave lettering. I don't know if it would turn out good or not, but the idea is that the letters could be made flush to the top surface of the cover, but would be red.

Huh?
am i missing a fundamental property of wax or something?
unless ur trying to say that it would melt but not run anywhere, it would stay in the letters with the engine rocking back and forth?

A friend of mine told me yesterday that his ex's father owns a pc shop. I was like, WTF didn't you tell me that when your were hittin it??!!
one of my old creations....

I had a complete 'how-to' write up on making those cam covers fit like stock (relocating the breather and making a bracket to hold the coil-pack).

When I sprayed my cover years ago, I basically when and did a sandblast on it to get it cleaned, and the surface prep'd.....
Then I used a Zinc-Cromate primer (marine grade -- for al). It's lasted, oh, I'd say 8 years now.... Unfortunately with all the dust, oil spills, etc it's a little dirty these days....
I think I'm going to have to find another cover though, to do the drill/tap for the cops.... <G>

Dave,
Just took these to sell my "spare" 1.6L motor.
It's sold but the cam cover still looked okay.
It needed some touch up in the valley, and wiping it off would have been nice too
