I'm currently making a hitch mounted tire and tent carrier. maybe build your own custom hitch? even with cut tow hooks you could figure something out with a drill and some long bolts.

 

I have seen Miatas using tire tails and I seriously don't recommend it. 911 where built to have that kind of weight distribution, but not Miatas. Get a tire trailer and be done with it: Super practical and perfectly safe.
