I've got some clicking noise that sounds like baseball cards in bike spokes. It just started a few days ago. I've checked the tires and there is nothing stuck in/on them, nothing appears out of place.

I can't tell what side of the car it's coming from, the sound is equally strong when I have a fence/wall on each side of the car. I'm thinking it may be the driveshaft, diff, or one of the rear axles. The sound varies by road speed, is very uniform, and I haven't found anything that affects it other than speed.

Any ideas?

 

left or right turns make it go away? sounds like a bearing or something stuck in a tire whipping around maybe.

 

Could possibly be a u-joint on the driveshaft or maybe something is loose under there.

bearings usually whiz/werr/squeel. this is definately a clicking. Turning doesn't seem to affect it either. It's pretty much a constant volume, just the frequency changes with road speed.

I'm leaning toward driveshaft u-joint.

 

to be honest, my car did this for a while in (i think) the left front. I never found it and it's gone.

have you looked under the car to see if something got caught near any moving parts?

 

check to see if any of your CV boots are torn.

I had this issue on my car about a week before it was torn apart for Turbo install. turned out to be a stick stuck on the rear suspension hitting the one of the axles.

 

I had a clicking noise too..

Come to find out, one of my clips on the front brake pad retainers was worn out, so it was rubbing on the rotor.. Well, with slotted and drilled rotors, it sounded like baseball card in bike spoke.

Friends car has an odd clicking noise, we can't seem to locate it though. I think its transmission related though, cause when you step on the clutch it goes away, even with engine at same speed.

 

I'll get up under it tonight and take a closer look at the rear end.
