Hi All,

Hopefully someone will be able to help me out. I have a 1994 1.8 Eunos Roadster and have recently had a problem with the clutch. The biting point became lower and lower until it was past the floor and the car would move in gear, even when the clutch was pressed down.

I thought it might be a problem with the adjustment rod, and followed the instructions in 'the garage' on how to adjust it. Unfortunately this didn't make any difference.

I have also replaced the clutch slave cylinder and bled the system, to no avail.

If I pump the clutch pedal repeatedly I can change gear, but if I hold the clutch pedal half way down for 10 seconds or so, I can feel the pedal go really light and I can touch the floor. At this point I can't change gear in the car.

Has anyone had this before?? It's driving me insane.

 

Replace the clutch master cylinder.

 

Check the rubber hose at the firewall in the clutch line. You might have a pinhole leak in it.

 

Are you losing any fluid? A bad slave cylinder will leak, a bad hose will leak. A bad master cylinder can bypass internally, and not leak. If you are losing fluid replace the leaking part. If you are not loosing fluid, replace the master cylinder.

 

I don't appear to be leaking fluid, so I guess it points toward the master cylinder. I'll replace it and see what happens.

I would highly suggest you bench bleed the master before install. Good Luck

 

Completely agree. The bleeding kits are cheap (normally less then $6).
There is also the distinct possibility your clutch should also be replaced. The disc could be paper thin.

 

Check your slave cylinder first. When mine went the dust boot had filled with fluid.

 

its sounds like you have air in the system. you said your not losing fluid? then check the master and when did you replace the slave? and it doesn't have to leak a lot of fluid for the pedal to go to the floor.

I replaced the slave cylinder on Monday and it didn't fix the problem, so hopefully it'll be the master.

I should have a new master cylinder waiting for me at home, so I'll have a go at fitting it and see how I get on.

Double check your slave. Squeeze the boot and make sure there is no fluid. It might be that the new one is bad. Sounds highly unlikely but it will save you quite a bit of time if it is the new slave that is bad.

 

Well the problem existed before i replaced the slave. Maybe I didn't word my original post very clearly.

I replaced the slave cylinder because of the problem, but it didn't fix it. So I guess it rules that out as the cause. The master cylinder didn't arrive today, so hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow. Fingers crossed

 

I am well aware that you replaced the slave to fix the problem. I am saying just double check it squeeze the boot. I have seen new ones be bad out of the box. You asked for advice correct.

 

yea I would double check because i replaced my slave and it didn't fix the problem but I thought it did, so I got stranded in the middle of rush hour delivering pizzas. i had to push start my car back to the store not fun.

 

First thing I'd do is rebleed the system. And BTW, have you bothered to check the hose??

 

Just a quick update. I've had the master cylinder replaced and the problem is now fixed. Happy days
