Clutch and Slave Cylinder
Hey guys I have a built turbo Miata making around 400whp and I constantly have to replace the Clutch Master and Slave Cylinder like I’m talking about every month or two. I don’t know if it my clutch causing that issue, I have a Flying Miata Happy Meal 2 Clutch. Is there any upgrades I can do to prevent this from happening?
Whoa, that's crazy.
Where are you getting these parts?
What are the symptoms of the master/slave failure?
Do they fail together, or on different schedules?
Are you using battery acid instead of brake fluid?

So the master and slave don’t give out at the same time but they do give out 2-3 days after I change one of those two parts. So when the Master fails I loose complete pressure on the clutch pedal, and when the slave fails all my clutch fluid disappears.
Dumb question, but is there a better brand of part available? I worked at AutoZone for awhile. Those rebuilt parts like brake calipers, master cylinders, and so on are remanufactured usually in some sweatshop in China. Usually substandard o-rings and seals and not to spec clearances. I've never looked into it, but can you buy "performance" slave cylinders and master cylinders. I would think if your running a clutch that takes more force to engage, you would in turn need a hydraulic cylinder (s) that's bigger to aid in pushing in the clutch. Not to mention that can handle the increased pressure needed to push the load. Same principle applies with any hydraulic cylinder. It can only handle so much before either becomes overloaded and starts leaking past it's internal seals.
Once you open a bottle of brake fluid it starts absorbing water. I was having this issue with my ‘99 and kept using an old bottle of DOT3 I’d had for years; when I rebuilt my MSM I used a brand new bottle of Motul and it still has the original master/slave.
