....without a clutch slave cylinder failure. I had one fail on my 96 and never had a problem with it after that..or on my 99. But today after a nice run in the mountains, I pull into a parking lot and try to go down to first and it won't go in. So I come to a stop and try to go into first. The car started rolling forward when pushing the shifter toward 1st, but even with the clutch pedal pushed in, it wouldn't roll right into gear. Pumped the damn thing and it went in kinda normal but as soon as my foot lifted 1mm the clutch started engauging. Checked the fluid, looked a little dark, but nothing crazy (kinda hard to see ATE SB in a cylinder that's wrapped in heatshield anyway). The slave itself doesn't have any noticable drip.... but I still know that the seal has failed. Dammit. The big PITA is trying to find ATE SB on a Sunday. Blah.

I was sooo looking forward to toyign with some ricers tonight too

 

Happened to me while I was out at lunch during work. Thankfully my clutch kill switch was disabled, used the starter to get going, and rev match shifted 20 miles home.

I thought mine had failed yesterday. I was changing my transmission fluid and noticed fluid all over the slave. Turns out it was a coolant leak

 

It's always fun to see a problem, know it's an easy fix only to find out that it's something completely different.

 

Especially when I was just doing the trans fluid as a precaution before driving 3 hours north next weekend. But it was nice to catch something like that before I'm stranded on the highway with no coolant...

Turns out someone loosened the clamp on my reroute when I pulled my motor the other day and it never got retightened.

 

Fun fun. I had a tiny coolant leak somewhere... I know one of my turbo water lines has a small leak and when I was doing the slave I saw a drop or two come from somewhere else that suspect might be one of the clamps on my reroute as well.

Well, I went to do the slave and found the 12mm bolts holding it on weren't very tight. o thinking I'm off th ehook I tightened them up and went for a drive...but dammit, not it. Swapped it out without even going too low on the reservior **** shifts all nice and smooth now.

 

I just had mine go out on my 99 too, at 100,030 miles

My reroute started leaking Friday afternoon on some particularly nice twisty roads where I passed a Corvette and a Viper playing around. I was having so much fun I didn't notice the puddle of coolant building up below my feet on the carpet I JUST put in. Heater core hose clamp FAIL.


My slave cylinder went out on the way to rharris's a few months ago. Spent last 15 miles driving through ghetto at 6am using starter at every stoplight and rev-matching. Luckily he had sufficient backup parts on hand.

Worst part was how much of the day we spent bleeding the stubborn clutch line instead of working on the yellow race car.

 

Greg- I don't think it's coming from the spacer, but the problem is I can't see back there clearly to see where the leak is and it isn't leaking all the time. My coolant reservior has lost only a few ounces in the past month or so. I'm not worried about it right now and I'll get to the turbo lines soon and see how much it reduces the loos fro the res.

Surpringly the bleeding process took about 2 minutes. I didn't get the fitting all the way tight right away and when my GF pumped the clutch, it bubbled out a bit from the fitting. I tightened that up and it only took 2-3 pump-bleeds for a clean purge of fluid. Lucky me.

I think i'm going to swing by the dealership and get a rebuild kit tomorrow and rebuild my old slave and return the other one back to NAPA and get my $35 back

 

Yah Know some times even some big *** companies will never back up what they sell,this was an informal thing but I am a stand up guy and I want to make my friends happy.When I have abuilding It will mean something.
