Default DIY air splitter*** mod

well, I got really bored over the last few days,
and since its been below zero, i cant do anything on the miata.
so I figured I would take this time to take off the stock air spliter thingy
which is made out of this plastic stuff, and make one out of aluminum

i bought 36"" by 36"' (inch) sheet of aluminum
19 dollars

i got one can of primer
3 dollars

one can of red paint
5 dollars

total = 27 dollars

traced the old one onto the sheet with a sharpy
cut it out using a combo of garden sheers and a dremel
drill holes for screws/etc
sand the edges down so its not stupid sharp like a huge sword
prime
paint
enjoy<--in progress,, way too cold to go outside to put it back on

pics of process i took for ***** and giggles

You can get metal like that from lowes, it's more expensive there than what you would pay at a scrap or metal fab shop though.

I can't believe your SN is urgaynknowit. Nice cover.

This post was a total letdown since the title led me to believe that you had made a diy front air dam. Oh well. It looks good anyway.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't be able to leave it unpainted and maybe polish it up a bit? I think I might try it out with some leftover scrap from a friends DIY heatshield.
