Double Clutching...
Heey there all,
Alright...so I have heard people talk about double clutching and now I'm curious. I do this all the time with my GF but in my car? Do I really need to? Seriously... i have been experimenting with double clutching my miata but don't really grasp the benefit of it. RPM matching on a downshift, got that part but when running through the gears under acceleration... do our cars really need such things? From what I read and understand it's really a product of older style transmissions and ours really aren't that oldschool. So... I'm just curious how many members here double clutch their miatas and if it really is worth mastering? Thanks all and cheers, M@ |

I double clutch downshifting, but...I don't see how it makes ANY sense to double-clutch on an upshift since the revs are decreasing and not increasing...

Double Clutching is only needed in non-synchronized transmissions.

Last time I double clutched was in a '49 Dodge 5 ton dump truck with a "crash box" (no synchro).

Example- *car in gear/clutch engauged* push in clutch move shifter to neutral position let clutch out push clutch in let clutch out push clutch clutch in select next gear let clutch out Congrats- now you've achieved uber-ricer status if you've even thought you need to do with on a car made after the 1970's. Fuck, when I'm just driving around, I don't even use a clutch to upshift/downshift. If you really want to challenge yourself, downshift while braking without using the clutch while rev-matching using the throttle to engage the next gear. |

Which is to be expected. I should have said "anyone who knowws what d-c'ing is and why is was done should only use it when driving a vehicle that requires it". But I assume that anyone here who has half a brain would already know this. |

I double clutch from 3-4 in my Legacy GT because that syncro is going bad....

I got in the habit of double clutch downshifting because A) Im usually bored and it entertains me B) Depending on my settings it used to be that double clutching was the only way to rev match and not activate my launch control.
