Why don't you girls just pack it up before I leave tread marks on your face?

Alright...so I have heard people talk about double clutching and now I'm curious. I do this all the time with my GF but in my car? Do I really need to?

Seriously... i have been experimenting with double clutching my miata but don't really grasp the benefit of it. RPM matching on a downshift, got that part but when running through the gears under acceleration... do our cars really need such things?

From what I read and understand it's really a product of older style transmissions and ours really aren't that oldschool. So... I'm just curious how many members here double clutch their miatas and if it really is worth mastering?

Thanks all and cheers,
M@

Good job.

Lol, two days from now were going to have another blown trans thread.

Ever heard of rev-matching? Yeah...didn't think so. Any real driver here can up shift, down shift, side shift and shift one up your moms ass without using the clutch or stressing the transmission. Duh. Get with the program.

ROFL...

I am almost sorry I asked; but damn yall... I did get the answer. Total waste of time to double clutch unless my shit is all broken :)

Makes sense to me but it was a burning question that had to be asked. So the only double clutching that will go on will be at home!

Cheers and thanks everyone!

Don't be to quick to jump to conclusions. There are some vehicles with synchronized transmissions that require double-clutching. These vehicles include (amongst others) any vehicle that has more than 5% of it's parts rattle-canned lime green, and anything with a dildo for a shift knob.

Double clutching has it's place, and it's not in the year 2010, and not on 99% of the vehicles on the road today.

I <3 double clutching....

...I just don't use the clutch when I do it...

Bond 07-26-2010 11:21 AM

I installed a 2nd clutch pedal so I can always be double-clutching.

cardriverx 07-26-2010 11:28 PM

I was referring to him breaking his trans because I kinda doubt he knows what rev matching is. No doubt im sure you got such skills, you just think and the transmission shifts for you.

hey guys, lets make a poll about waving at other miata drivers

bbundy 07-27-2010 02:14 AM

I double clutch wile driving a non syncro 18 wheeler heavy truck. It’s kind of cool to double clutch down through several gears in a 13 or 18 speed transmission using engine braking to slow you down.

Completely pointless and a waste of time in a Miata.

What double clutching or engine braking?
