drag (queen) advice
 
i know most of u guys love autoX and road racing, but i am hoping to get some advice/technique on drag racing.

what tires should i run?
i have two 13x8 rims that i want to put some slick/street radials on.

they dont make much in this size rim.

do i want a tall or short tire?

im about 212hp, 5 spd, 4.30 gear.

do not go over 24 inches and get a 7-8 inch slick if you have a 4.3 from a 1.6 then launching on slicks will most certianly kill it. Most importantly take a practice run not for serius time just ot get the feel of the track and the car before you go out and try to pwn any one. GL man also running a fairly low tire pressure can help you hook sometimes.

cause that close to stock and if you realy squat with mich larger and dont have rolled fenders you could do some damage :P . As far as launching goes i like to take mine up to around 3500 or alil more as that is where my wheel spin begins to be a major issue for me. Your launch RPM is wholy dictated by your traction and spool characteristics.

Makeup is most definitely the key to pulling it off. I mean, the clothes are important, but makeup makes the girl. Also, be sure to shave right before you go out, the 5 o'clock shadow seems to be a dealbreaker. :ugh2:

I have a set of 15" rims and run the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radials (225/50/15):

I pretty much drag race my miata exclusively, and the biggest thing I've found is getting enough heat into the tires. Unless you have linelock, doing a good burnout is pretty tough. I don't have line lock, so when I'm in the burnout box I dump the clutch at about 4600 rpm, and then pin the gas and bounce the car off the rev limiter until I almost get to the start line. This gets those g-Force T/A tires super sticky.

My most recent runs at the 1/4 mile were in the 14.4 seconds, which I wasn't super happy about. My wastegate doesn't want to hold more then 12psi above 4500 RPM, and i'm still running with a cat and a 2.25 exhaust, so lots of room for improvement. My 60ft time was quite good though at 1.930 (anything under 2 seconds is great).

As for your 13" tires, I'm not sure who makes a drag radial in that size. BFGoodrich only goes down to 14".

If anyone is reading this thread and has some suggestion for a better transmission to run, I'd appreciate the advice. I'm currently using a 1990 1.6 tranny, and desperately want some longer gears down low.

At 174 whp you shouldnt have any trouble launching if the shit is realy to short then put in a 3.9 or 3.6 rear end. will be your cheapest option

Power numbers have changed a bit since then, and I'm currently 210lbs of torque at 3100 rpm...
