Default eBay timing kit - why not to get them!

1.6L 1.8L MAZDA FORD TIMING KIT WATER PUMP B6ZE BP B6 | eBay

So, I'm looking for someone to talk me out of getting this eBay timing kit. I plan on getting all Felpro seals and gaskets locally, just need the timing belt/pulleys/water pump.

Is it crap, or put in my order tonight?

Lots and lots of people (including myself) use them. Nothing wrong with it. As with any ebay part, you take a gamble on whether it will fail or not more so than an OEM part costing 4x the price, but for 99% of us the results have been great.

Shiit, if even Rosenthal stocks that pump, I'm going that route then.

Thanks guys!

As long as you get the GMB waterpump the ebay kits are fine. I have probably used half a dozen of them over the past 7 years.

Same brand that most over the counter parts stores stock as well. I got that same brand from either advanced auto or autozone, don't remember which.

I got it and am very happy with the quality. The belts are continental so you cant go wrong.

I have that same ebay timing belt kit with GMB pump on both my miata and integra. So far so good, i'd recommend it.

this. and if you have a 1.6L you need to make sure they send the correct one with the tapped screw hole

Just dont go with Evergreen gaskets and you're fine.

I also had experience ordering a timing belt kit from mazda dealership. Surprisingly, none of the parts are made by mazda..

Resurrecting for clarification on the "tapped screw hole" in the water pump. Where on the pump is it and what attaches there? I've not done a TB/WP yet so I don't know what to look for.

I'm gonna order an eBay kit today while they are on sale and want to make sure I get the correct parts. Here's the link if anyone's interested...$74 shipped with a GMB pump:

If you're looking at the front of the motor, the right pulley, or idler pulley, attaches there. 1.8s go through the WP and thread into the block, 1.6s thread into the WP.

I also just looked at the ebay kits but went with a kit from amazon (same price). The company called me the next day and asked a couple questions about the car , year, and other options to verify the correct parts would be sent. The name of the company was "Evergreen Performance Components Inc". So far I was impressed with the service because of the quick turn around time and the phone call prior to sending. The kit also included the GMB water pump. I have no affiliation with the company.

Has anyone used the Gates WP from rockauto? I got one an it has a cast iron impeller, the OEM one has a stamped steel one. Anyone noticed a difference in performance?
