Default Replace your engine mounts!

With the upcoming NE Dyno day inching closer, I decided I would do something I have not done in a very long time. Work on my Miata! I have a pile of new parts on my garage floor waiting to be installed and I thought I would start with my new engine mounts. I never thought I had problem with the original mounts until I wrestled them away from the engine block. You can see from these pictures, both of my mounts were completely torn. Do yourself a favor, if you still have your original mounts and your car is as old as mine, change them out before the weather is nice.

I honestly could not believe how bad they were. I guess I don't drive my car very hard!

Replaced mine last fall and they were still fine after 4 years of boost. I guess I need to beat ont he car a bit harder.

I do agree if you have boosted your motor, you should install stronger mounts.

You don't need a cherry picker to change the engine mounts on a miata.

all you need is a good floor jack with a piece of wood between the head of the jack and the oil pan. Just put a tiny bit of pressure on the engine. Do one side at a time. The motor isn't going anywhere.

The driver's side was easy. I dropped a few F-bombs on the passenger's side. The hardest part was getting the motor mount bracket under the starter bracket. Overall, it was an easy job. Probably took an hour out of my day.

That was my nickname in high school.

HaHa, JK, You know I happen to know where this shop is, complete with a lift to bring the car up a bit (so you don't hurt your back) and a hoist. Hmm.

Yeah my driver's side was completely toast also. I used to have to unbolt that motor mount and rotate the engine .25 inch to get my old downpipe in. One day the mount just fell out of the car...

I never checked the passenger side but I have that on the list of things to do.
