sure but they write the mileage on the back of the sticker and send it to the state through the emissions computer. not that we don't do that sometimes anyway.

FleaBay. I got my deuce and a half there, had my friend weld all the flanges on as well as build my downpipe back exhaust. My hangers are clapped out and stretched because the piping is heavy, but I passed smog this year.

ok--I was pleasantly suprised when the man in the brown van handed me a Magnaflow box. Cat's here, woohoo! I'm going to try to install it tomorrow. Wish me SPADES of luck with the welding!

STAN! I know you can weld man... Feel free to come help out, and youre like 10 minutes away. Lawrenceville's not far from you in Duluth... and we can put your car up on a lift if you need to for anything. PS, the helmet really sucks, so if you have a fancy auto-dark job feel free to bring it.

Ben. The $40 shipped auto darkening helmets on ebay are kick ***. I have one and it's great. Best $40 i've spent on any fab project thus far.

Thumbs down

Got my cat yesterday. Today I went to install it so I could re-take the emissions test aand consenquently make my car road legal.

OK, here's a couple pics of my heatshield wrapped around the test pipe (and remember I leanded it down and pulled back timing and almost passed):

What I ended up having to do is cut the ends w/ flanges from the test pipe and weld them to the cat.

Installed on the car

Result

High CO / HC and low NO. You're running rich and / or cold.

Last time you had similar HC / CO but high (though passable) NO by leaning the engine. I'd suggest you go back to those exact same fuel settings and try it with the cat.

Love the ultra-ghetto test pipe.

Just be glad you don't live in CA. With those two fails, your car would forever carry the designation of Gross Polluter.

This is my first test last week. No cat on the car. Pulled timing back to stock, otherwise pretty much the same map that was tuned on the dyno by Jerry and Scott. Afr around 14.2:1

This is my second test last week. No cat on the car. Retarded timing a bit overall and leaned it a little from my dynotuned map. Afr was around 15:1

And here again is today's result. This is with a brand new Magnaflow cat, stock timing, and my dynotuned map. Afr was around 14.2:1

Yup. Too rich. Go back to the map that gave you 15:1 and run it with the cat installed.

I seem to recall reading once that the MS had a mode where it would sweep the AFR back and forth around 14.7 just like the stock ECU does. Not sure where I read that...

Yeah, it's sooo close though.

I was supposed to free run on an emissions dyno w/ a 5 gas anaylzer. I was waiting and waiting and got the, "Well it's close to five o'clock now, so you'll have to come back tomorrow." The dyno was only an hour from my house

My registration expired 2 weeks ago. My registration extension expires today.

I can't file for a waiver because my 3rd test was worse than my 2nd test. Even though it's really only worse in a splitting hairs kind of way.
I'm kinda fucked.

_______ me^ __ ^state of ga

<edit> oh, I didn't save the msq from either previous dyno run. I have a feeling that if I had leaned the fuel like in run 2, but left the timing like run 1, it would pass. And probably do so without the cat, as it looks like the cat only lowers NOx...

I failed my again

HC Reading 1.2994 allowable 0.5000 FAIL

CO reading 1.779 allowable 9.32 PASS

NOx reading 0.6585 alowwable 1.24 PASS

Two out of three is good

This was with -5 from the timing and -10 on the fuel

I will have to get out the laptop and take -10 from the timing and -20 from fuel. Then adjust the WB O2 settings all to 66 (15.1 or so)

i'm pretty sure leaning it out more than necessary is worse for your results, before you guys try and run 17:1

ben- looks like you're on the right track, lean it out to stoich(second test) with the cat on and as close to stock timing as possible and you should be good.
