Default Exhaust manifold / downpipe removale problem.

Hey guys,

Pulling out my 01+ header and stock downpipe to make room for my BEGi S6 system, and one of the @#$!$ nuts going from the header to the downpipe rounded off on me! Is there any way to pull the manifold and downpipe up through the top? If not, I will have to reach up in there with a die grinder and grind that nut off (probably ruin the stud in the process)...

I tried a bit to pull it from the top but it seems like the linkage from the steering column down to the steering rack is in the way.

Any help appreciated,

Keith

I believe there is a clamp on the downpipe section that bolts to the transmission. If you remove that clamp you should be able to pull the header out from the top.

With it out of the car I was able to remove the damaged nut... 01+ header has two damaged studs now (one broken off, but with good threads... and this one with buggered up threads).

How much is it worth now as it sits with two messed up studs (I have the correct EGR tube in good condition) vs how much would it be worth if I replaced the studs? Trying to figure out if it is worth my trouble to repair it.

I ended up breaking 2 studs when I was installing the 01+ header on my 00. Drilled out the studs and they are now bolts. No leaks, no care.

I like sawzalls. You haven't lived until you've had to cut the entire suspension off your race car because not one single bolt would come out.

This one is my favorite.

See the bolt that goes through the spindle/hub assy?

See how it's bent and snapped off on the top/threaded end? (Threads now gone) That's what went first under the full force of a 20ton press. Incredible noise and pieces shooting everywhere when that let go. (This is what started me using a scatter shield when using the press)

On the other end, where the bolt head is... the washer you see expanded and pressed down over the sleeve is supposed to be where the bolt head is.

Both hubs just ******* laughed at me in the face of 40,000lbs of force.
