Father of the Miata... 323GTX LOVE.
SO.... a select handful already know... but I picked up something fun last night. Friend sent me an ad from the local chicago area autox listserv about a 323 gtx for sale. Motor was dying, price had just been dropped.... had ALL suspension stuff done (shocks/coilovers/brakes/bushings/ss lines/mazdaspeed lsd/sways/strut bars..) and would probably need an engine.
So I got ahold of the guy during the day, setup a meeting that night. Drove down, took a few laps around the block, suspension felt nice and stiff/tight. Bought the car... for 1k. Waited for AAA to come get me (had found leak at a plug in radiator, fixed that with bolt today) and took the car home.
Did some wrenching today. Projects consisted of:
Install o2 bung on downpipe
Install and wire wideband
Fix wastegate routing.... was T'd into the turbo intake tract... ie: NO BOOST CONTROL
Dump oil... inspect... clean... put in Delvac and new filter
Put bolt into distributor end cam cover/cap
Pump up slow leak tires
Remove AC unit from under dash, use hole to route wideband
Play with pimp Blaupunkt Cassette deck... someone send me a mix tape please
Then I went driving. Car runs perfect. Nice loud HLA tick... but it runs PERFECT. OEM turbo cars are... awesome.
10psi off oem gate is surprisingly fun.
So there you go... I almost feel guilty... (unless the motor blows up next week, then it was a decent deal) but the car was a STEAL.
Thank you Mazda for giving us these motors... even with the crappy flowing heads... they are still damn fun.
Pics .... you didn't think I would skip pictures did you?

Killer score! I had one a few years ago...dumped a ton of money into it and sold it for less than I bought it (clutch going bad). It was one of the biggest mistakes I've done.
Same wheels just smaller
The car is GREAT in the snow. Best of luck with it! I'm jealous
