Default Finally a Miata owner again

After 3+ years of miata-less existence, I've finally re-joined the good side and picked up another miata.

It's a red 96 with just under 130k. I'm pretty sure it's a PEP car, it's got power windows so it's got an LSD right? It's pretty rough around the edges and it's been poorly resprayed in one quarter, but the unibody is 100% rust free which was most important to me. That and it was cheap, I paid $2400, which I think is a decent deal. Initial impressions are the car definitely needs some freshening up but it's a solid car.

Anyway, more pictures this weekend, might even start a build thread. I feel some EFR in my near future (that and Reverant MS2 and 15x9 and...and...)

For now, first pic:

Cool - thought you might have gone with an Acura or something in dune buggy trim Make her fun and make her fast!

Actually, I'm selling my Integra to fund this project. Mostly because I just don't like the integra, not even a little bit. FWD for a putz around fun car just doesn't work.

No dune buggy, but the pit bike is in the background, it can go through sand and dirt OK...

I've got half a garage worth of Integra parts to sell, need to get those on Craigslist ASAP so I can start the EFR fund

Awesome!

Been without a Miata for only a few months now and am ready to jump back in already.

Funny thing is I've been coming to this forum basically daily for the entire time I've been sans miata.

I guess I just love all the gehs here...

As 18psi eluded, MSM Bilstein HDs and MSM springs ordered. Need to get some NB tophats, thinking either ISC set up or FCM, or maybe just stock ones to save money.

Also, Enhanced Reverant MS2 ordered. Very much looking forward to getting this in the mail.

15x9 TRMotorsports wheels will be ordered when I get back from the BAJA 1000. I'd rather run 949 wheels but, Emilio is my sworn enemy, and I get a wholesale discount at Tirerack so it makes silly cheap wheels even that much cheaper. Going to be running 205 BFG Sports because the price is just right. Yeah, 205 on a 9" wheel, whatever. I'm like Kimi, I don't give an eff.

Planning on getting RDX injectors initially. I know they aren't as fantabulous as ID1000s but again, the price is just right. After I build a motor with forged internals, I'll look at getting ID1000s and running E85. That's further down the road.

Have most of my original turbo set up sitting in the garage. Garrett T3S60 with a DIY JGS log manifold, DIY turbo back exhaust. Ebay intercooler, VAG BOV, etc. etc.

Going to get rid of the garrett and throw a t2 flange on the manifold so I can run an EFR6258.

Plan is to get the car running on the MS2, then add RDX injectors. Then add the EFR on a very simple, cheap set-up. Then try to run ~250whp and not bend a rod. We'll see how the EFR spools and performs with a shitty log manifold, cheap ebay intercooler and poorly made DIY downpipe and exhaust...

Should be fun

Get the ISC. Not as pretty as the FM, but they do the job, and are much cheaper. Best part I ever bought in terms of cost/benefit ratio.

Well actually, right this minute, Negra Modelo.

Tomorrow and the rest of next week, Tecate.

What part made you lulz? The wheel and tire part or....all of it?

I'd ask you to drive for us if you didn't already have a seat.
Your SSB runoffs win was fantastic.

Yea that was 100% joking.

I feel kind of like a dbag buying TR wheels over 949 but the price difference with our discount is big enough to justify it (at least for a poor boy like me) that and I already have a set of the ORIGINAL 15x8 6ULS, black with the polished lip even.

UPDATE

First test fit:

Turbo not hit hood?

EFR is temporarily mounted on my modified JGS style DIY log manifold. The manifold is from my previous set-up which was a garret t3 turbo. I cut the t3 flange off and had to do quite a bit of welding to adapt a t2 flange.

Here's the manifold before modifying for the t2 flange.

Placement is pretty awful in general, all of the weight is really far forward and high up. Oh well, it's what I had on hand to work with. The turbine housing is super friggen long and it looks like at this placement the downpipe will be awfully close to the brake lines.

By the time I'm done with the manifold it will be really really bad for flow. I guess we'll see how the EFR does with the world's worst log manifold...

You could rehash the log for improved flow and placement? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359201696

I could but a few things dissuade me. First, I have almost no time to work on this project. Quickly adapting a t2 flange to the current manifold is the most time effective solution, it's what I have time to do. Second, this is the cheapest option, I basically have $0 in re-doing this manifold. Rehashing the manifold as you suggest wouldn't cost much, but still, more than zero.

Finally, I figure I might be doing this forum a service by showing the capability of the EFR on basically the simplest manifold a DIY'er could build. It will be another data point to add to the database. Maybe I'll show that for the same amount of money (say $1700) your better off going with an EFR + cheap log than say a Garrett BB turbo + nice manifold. Or maybe I'll show the exact opposite...
