Default Fixing my wife's Ex f ups

So my wife's ex was a "master mechanic" by putting on a new radiator and fans. Well the fans haven't worked until today where I rigged up the coolent temp control sensor. The thing is it only works when you push the AC button. It's weird, and I'm about to replace the sensor and the relays anyway just in hopes it fixes it and it's not a wiring issue. But if changing the sensor and relays don't work, does anyone know of a wiring diagram I can use to track down the possible issue if what I'm doing doesn't fix it. I understand the PS cuts on when it gets up to temp and the DS should only cut on when the AC is running. I'm hoping it's nothing to do with wires. Has anyone else had this issue. And if it is a wiring issue, how much of a pain will this be?

Its a 1993 NA 1.6L

Edit: tested fuses and relays, the relays click and have plenty of ohms, the fuses all shown continuity and are good. It's between the sensor being bad and/or a bad/mixed wire "modification" or possibly the thermostat but that is very unlikely.

Go here for a wiring diagram: https://www.mellens.net/mazda/

If I remember correctly, the NA has two temperature sensors (I'll let an NA guy chime in to be sure). The wiring diagram should show you that.

1.6L has 3 temp sensors:
  • Back of the head for the ECU
  • Back of the head for the dashboard
  • on top of the coolant neck for radiator fan control
I'd guess the one on the coolant neck is broken in some fashion. You can test the fans by opening the diagnostic connector and shorting TFA to GND.

Sounds like you have it wired into the AC condenser fan and not the radiator cooling fan.
