Default Fuel pump blew, recommendations?

So I blew my fuel pump. It was the stock Mazda one with 140,000 miles on it. Should I replace it with the same thing, or do you guys suggest a different one like a Walbro? It's sunday so Napa isn't open here, but I'm thinking a stock replacement may just last as long, if not longer, than the factory one did.

I have a Walbro 190HP on mine, not sure it's necessary but it gets the job done.

So I thought I blew my pump, then I checked the voltage to the plug at the pump. Nothing. Perhaps it's my relay? I tested the main ecu but my haynes manual says my fuel pump relay is under the steering column. I pulled the cover out and I
can't find the relay. What does it look like?

It's under the steering column (need to unscrew steel shroud to get to it. Haynes manual should tell the color; orange comes to mind but it has been over a year since I last pulled the one on my '90 so I'm not sure on the color.

Edit, Just stuck my head under the dash and looked at it. On my '90, it's a big rectangular orange plug that connects into a black plug. Squeeze the tabs on the side of the orange connector to disconnect and check for voltage.

i had this issue on our 96 and i ust hardwired a 12 volt toggle to go in space beside my criuse control. I see no reason why he cant run a 190 brain he doesnt need more flow than it can provide, esp if he gets a high pressure unit. A 255 will give him more headroom but ultimatly i think it will cause problems with the internal regulator in the tank.

So I checked the FM website and they sell the Walbro 255 for $139. The stock replacement from the Mazda dealer is $438. Needless to say I'm going with the Walbro. Anyone put of of these in? It says, "slight modifications needed." What mods did you guys have to do, and this is PNP for the '99, correct?

Go with a 302 from a ford with a mechanical fuel pump. No relays or electronics to worry about. Be a real man.

I rock the 255hp walbro.

Hard wired fuel pump FTW! Makes a great safety feature too if you hide it. It was a necessity on my RX7 since it would have hot start problems all the time. Either that or I would have to pop the hood and pull the fuse several times to clear the flood.

Why 190 and not the 255? Isn't the price fairly close? Or is the 255 just overkill?

I'm goin with the 255, thought maybe it would be overkill, but since everybody's like "dude what's wrong with you, go with the 255", I'm doin it. Lightningmotorsports.com price: $89.99
Flyin Miata price: $139.99
Why the $50 difference? You know FM will charge like $25 to ship it and it'll take 8 days.
I told my Honda friend about the pump, and he's like I have a Walbro in my civic, got it from LightningMotorsports.com. I'm like, GTFO!

I just looked as I need a 255 for my V8 car. I can't find the 89.99 price you referenced at lightningmotorsports. They have 190's for 79.99 or 255's for 134.93. I must be missing something.

Ha! Nothing against FM, I have a lot of their parts on my car. They fit perfect, they hold up, and I believe they sell the best quality parts you can buy for a miata. It's just, you will pay top dollar for it for it, and they rape you on shipping. I think they charge like $1200 for a GT2560 turbo? You can buy em other places for way cheaper.
Well, I'm sure everybody's heard about FM's price craze a thousand times over...so here's what's what. I'm going with the 255 walbro, and this thread met it's goal.
