Gauging interest in 3.63 gears

After speaking with Dan, I have volunteered to receive these gears and then ship them out to people interested in them. So once we figure out what the interest is Dan can get a price. Maybe he can chime in and fill everyone in on what would be needed.

Thanks,
Ryan

Amellrotts 10-20-2013 05:37 PM

Depending on price.....

nitrodann 10-20-2013 07:08 PM

Need a price for shipping, which will be good due to sending half a dozen sets of gears at a time, but looking at 300 a set.

They are from 626's so are older than NA or NB gears, but are identical in design, and I have already confirmed perfect fitment with a trial install :)

Dann

Fireindc 10-20-2013 07:19 PM

Are these plug in play into a standard 94-04 housing? As in, do I need to set lash, or anything else when installing, or can I do this in my garage with a BFH and some RTV?

I'd be interested if we are talking sub $500 range after shipping and whatnot.

RyanRaduechel 10-20-2013 07:22 PM

Yes, you will have to set backlash. It is the ring and pinion gear. So it will have to be installed into a carrier.

nitrodann 10-20-2013 07:23 PM

Def will be sub 500. Yep drop in to 1.8 housings.

They will need to be set, might have to take it to a diff shop and have them spend 10 mins setting lash if you aren't familiar with the process.

I am interested.

Interested.

TorqueZombie 10-20-2013 08:35 PM

Interested as well cause I need more parts sitting around doing nothing.

TNTUBA 10-20-2013 08:37 PM

To be clear. you WILL have to verify backlash, pinion depth and pinion bearing preload(which WILL require a new crush sleeve) at a MINIMUM.

It would suck to get in on this and junk the gears after not having them properly set up. If you have to ask if this even needs to be done, it's not a job you can do.

nitrodann 10-20-2013 08:47 PM

:bowrofl:

^^ that.

+1, and definitely interested.

I'm interested.

Prefer 3.3, but interested.

Can you source the speedo gear too?

Amellrotts 10-20-2013 09:46 PM

Could I get (do they make) a 3.3? I am seriously considering a 8.8 swap to get a ratio like that!

The consensus these days seems to be that the 3.3 is mythical, it doesn't exist.

I'll find out.

Dann

Nagase 10-20-2013 11:43 PM

Mythical or not, if they're being made new... a 3.3 would be absolutely killer.

Oh yeah, that too if it could be made to work. If not, meh, I'm sure I can always yellowbox it or something.

krissetsfire 10-21-2013 01:25 AM

I'd love a 3.3 as well. depending on price also interested 3.6 I guesss.

good2go 10-21-2013 02:12 AM

Count me interested also.

Source for new ?

nitrodann 10-21-2013 07:46 AM

3.3 confirmed for mythical.

Lots of rumours, but no go.

Dann

I am in for 3.6 as shown in the other thread.

Maybe.

Get 50 people together with $450 each and tell MFactory you want them and they'll make them, each person give $250 deposit and in a few months pay the other $200 and get your gears.

Id like 3.63 gears.

vteckiller2000 10-26-2013 03:04 AM

I'm in for a set

nitrodann 10-26-2013 05:55 AM

Okay, getting as many sets as are wanted might prove to be a challenge, some visiting wreckers and pulling the gears will be needed.

This is a pretty big time and money investment, so perhaps if Ryan or someone wants to volunteer to take X amount of sets and redistribute that will allow us to lock something in.

Dann

glade 10-26-2013 06:32 AM

Whatever the decision, I am willing to put in an 50% deposit to alleviate some of the the initial monetary investment.

Judging from the time it takes to change pumpkin in the pits, just pulling could be done in 20 minutes with the training you will get.
Those with 3.636 gears in your area might need to watch their rear ends...

I'd be up for that too.

Just so this does not disappear, I am working with nitrodann to get some imported to the US for a bit cheaper then buying them new from Mazda. For the first batch he will be shipping 5 to the US. Once nitrodann and I have worked out the details and cost I will be starting a thread in the For Sale section. People willing to put cash down up front will be going to the start of the line.

viperormiata 10-28-2013 11:35 AM

Lars, you can count on me to pay in advance. Both you and Ryan know I flex nuts hard. I got da skrilla.

Lars, does this officially mean that Ryan is not going to be the stateside liaison for this. In his OP here he indicated he was in contact with Dann, and in another thread, Dann confirmed as much. There's even a post from Erat indicating his own (separate) communication and some agreement prior to that. Regardless, I will still be happy to front cash, but I (and maybe a few others) just want to be clear who's running the show on this end. Thanks.

I do not know if Ryan is still in or not. I will need to talk to Dann more and figure that out. I was simply going off post 37 where Dann mentioned that he needed a volunteer, so I figured I would step up and get this going. At the end of the day, I could care less who is in charge, I just want to make sure this happens, as I want some gears myself.

Rare, not mythical. I had a set that, after searching for years, ended up selling to Randy Stocker too cheap.

According to mazda motorsports they did not exist, at least not in a stock vehicle. Maybe someone made a custom run of them back in the day but they did not come as an option in the diesel B-series trucks.

RyanRaduechel 10-28-2013 03:06 PM

Sorry for the delay, I was at Sonoma this weekend racing and hadn't had a chance to get on the forum. If Lars wants to front the money for 5 or whatever I don't care, I was hoping for getting more than 5 over for the first batch, but you guys can do whatever you want. It really doesn't matter to me how they get over, I just want my gears lol so if I do it or someone else does it, it's fine with me. Let's just get this shit going.

Ben 10-28-2013 03:06 PM

82-84 B2000 diesel. They existed.

Mazda said the 3.303 ratio existed, but only in the 7.5" ring gear. Which doesnt fit the miata front housing. And if I have to figure out mounting a different front section I'm just going to put in a 7.5" ford.

Amellrotts 10-28-2013 03:24 PM

I would like a set of the gears from whomever actually gets them. I think Dan has three people here now all thinking they are the man? I volunteered as well......was even willing to front the money for them. Lars, let me know when you have some on their way and I will get with you to make payment arrangements.

shuiend 10-28-2013 05:28 PM

I have talked to Ryan and am in contact with with a few others. I will most likely be taking lead on this. On the plus side this means most likely everyone who gets one with get mt.net decals. Once I have confirmed with everyone that I am going to take lead I will be starting a group buy thread in the for sale section. All future updates will be there.

nitrodann 10-28-2013 06:36 PM

A few people PM'd me, but lars was the first to say firmly, that he would front the money and lets do it now.

Im not in the position to, nor would I want to front 3500 dollars to send 10 sets into the states, with no way of contacting anyone who asked, and of course, fuck waiting for 10 people to actually put money down.

I think a firmly written email or 2 with all of the details and agreements using our paypal emails and a transfer through paypal is the way to go, the 45 day agreement gives me plenty of time to have them collected, and then shipped and this offers lars protection, not that he will need it.

So how is this going to work? Just a crazy free-for-all and whoever gets in first gets gears? Because there is no way I'm going to see that thread start, or be one for the first ten to respond

Aricjm15 10-28-2013 07:04 PM

Do want. Who do I make it rain on? And by that I mean hail, because I'll be paying with quarters

Screaming04 10-28-2013 10:18 PM

I'm in too. I will front money to Nitro Dan or someone on this end. Say the word.

shuiend 10-29-2013 08:22 AM

I have a rough list of about 20-23 people who have expressed interest in getting sets. The top 5 spots or so are pretty much finalized as to who is getting in for those. After that I will go down based on people who have expressed interest of putting cash up front. The issue is going to come with the more we want to get shipped over, the higher the cost is going to be. Currently I am waiting on Dann to get back to me with more details. Once we have worked out details I will post the GB thread with prices and my list of people. If you have already messaged me about getting a set I have made sure you are on the list, for anyone else, please hold off on pming me until Dann and I have finalized details.

viperormiata 10-29-2013 11:27 AM

TELL ME WHERE TO SEND MONEY. I CAN SEND IT RIGHT NAOW

EO2K 10-29-2013 11:40 AM

Why is that Lars? I thought it would be just the opposite.
