I'm very interested count me in! I've been waiting fir a deal in 3.63

EO2K 11-10-2013 10:14 AM

Some of ya'll biscuit heads go sign up for 3.308s form MiataRoadster so I can get in on a set of 3.63s :giggle:

shuiend 11-19-2013 08:32 AM

So I got back pricing from Dann. I will say that things are not looking very promising at this point. I specifically asked for what it would cost to get 10 sets over. Right now it is looking like $300 pet set, then shipping for all 10 would be about $1500 to me. I am factoring in another $40-50 for paypal fees and then shipping out to each person in the US. So total would be right around $500. That price point is very close to what the 3.63 gears cost new $550, or the $540 for 3.3 gears from MiataRoadster. I will be messaging the first 10 people I have on the list in the next few days to see what their interest is. I am also going to try to see if there is some other cheaper way to get them sent over.

The price difference between them coming from a boat or a plane is about $300. The big difference is them shipping on a plane would take about a week, them coming on a boat is 40-60 days.

Erat 11-19-2013 09:15 AM

Well i'm not sure who's first on your list. But i told Dann that they would need to cost a bit less for me to buy them from him. I gave him my price point.

EO2K 11-19-2013 11:52 AM

Ungh, this is pretty much exactly what I was afraid of :sad2:

Find a shipper that doesn't bring them through customs for you. Bring them into the bonded warehouse closest to your port, call the customs agent, and fill out the one page of paperwork and pull them out of the bonded warehouse.

I am not interested in participating here, but have shipped internationally several times and the big shippers aren't the correct answer.

nitrodann 11-19-2013 07:04 PM

Please explain how this is done, who do I contact and ask?

One of the key issues here is the extremely high wages in australia so everything is expensive as hell, especially services.

If you can get a decent price on shipping a crate (share a container etc), you would probably be able to supply the complete pumpkin for the same money as the removed gears (less work/time but more volume/weight).
Getting rare "JDM" engines from down under isn't that expensive, but it takes time. Contact any of the firm that export heavier stuff.

Selling a installed 3.636 (with whatever LSD there is) for $550 shipped is another thing (more takers).
Cheaper than we are used to on the other side of the other pond at least.
Random example

But the real problem is that the Yanks are spoiled with low prices and "free" shipping... ;)
Try to get used to $1200 for a set of 6ULs (shipped with tax).

From your end, call any of the airlines that have flights from where you are to a city close to the delivery point (whoever is picking them up). All airlines ship freight/cargo. They like to keep it under 100 lbs. and under a certain size (L+W+H will be limited to certain package size). You don't even need a direct flight, I use the port of Kansas City and the airlines have no problems transfering the freight to multiple planes to get it here.

At your end, you fill out a one-page manifest that identifies what is in the package (used automotive parts), the value of product in the package (I would estimate low, you get to pay customs fees based on this), and some other pertinent details (who you are, who you are shipping to, special handling).

The work comes in the importation and who picks it up at this end. Whoever this is gets to clear it through customs, pay customs fees, and pick it up from the bonded warehouse.

Cool, Ill call around.

Ill get onto it tomorrow.

shuiend looks like he is in Charleston, SC. CHS is the airport you want to send this to. There is a customs office there.

I should have been more clear, any customs fees get paid at the endpoint. From Australia, you deliver this to the airline and pay to put it on the plane. Package gets to Charleston, it goes into a bonded warehouse and the recipient (shuiend) has a limited amount of time to get it through customs and out of the warehouse. Once the customs paperwork is complete, they will fax it to the warehouse, pull your car up to the dock, and the warehouse loads it up.

Here at MCI, the customs agents are pretty forgiving to importation for one-time, low-value, personal use type stuff. For commercial enterprises, the standards are (quite a bit) higher.

This will be a boatload less than the $1,500 shipping estimate. There are plenty of shipping companies that do this, and they will clear U.S. Customs while in transit. Sure it is easier, but this service comes at a cost.

A lot of answers here. I tend to ship freight, which is how I outlined above (pick airline, ship on airplane to MCI).

Savington 11-20-2013 02:41 PM

$1500 in shipping is a crackpipe price. I could get all 10 sets air-freighted to my shop inside of 48 hours for less than that. I've shipped engines the other way (SFO>SYD) via ocean freight for <30% of that.

I'm not volunteering to do the legwork, but you guys should be able to do much better than that on the shipping charges.

Is it too soon to ask if this 3.63 group buy effort is still in the works? Has the whole 3.3 gear set offering from CR taken the wind out the sails here? No pressure intended, but any update would be much appreciated.

I would love to know how to get it out of australia, unfortunately cost of living here is around 80% higher than the USA so services are through the roof.

I am trying.

I can get each set to anyones door for 85 ish but that would take 3 months, for a week or less it costs 135 a set.

I am still looking but options are few and pricey. What do you suggest?

Dont worry, once we pass our absurdly high minimum wage like what you guys have our cost of living will be higher than yours.

Erat 12-05-2013 08:07 AM

Well. There is going to be snow on the ground here for at least 3 more months.... Sooo, it doesn't matter to me.
