Tom has hooked me up with good parts when in need. Best part is I usually get them the next day via DHL. He's just under 4 hrs from where I am in TN i think. I'd like to make it out to one of his dyno days sometime.
Actually i'm pretty sure he builds some mean heads. Here is one of this for sale listings:
"Cylinder Heads
90-93 Bare Heads.Presure Tested.Good Thickness. Can Build To Suit Your Needs. From Stock To Wild!"
Might be a one stop shop for you.

A hellva guy and interested in doing a Miata head, but has yet to do one (I'm too slow). He should be able to do a valve job no problem. If you have a good port he can digitize it and reproduce it, he's got those fancy 5 axis CNCs.
I'm not sure what his prices are either.

Valve job, yes probably as that's not anything head-specific. Port work, no.
I have a spare '94 head I was gonna let him play with but figured it'd be cheaper to find a 99+ head like you. How much was it?

I vote for Bob at Fairfax Auto Parts, he seemed very knowledgeable and does SCCA miata engine builds all the time.

a reliable source for a 3-angle would be good.
Rebello in Antioch.
They do spec miatas, as well as Touring Car BMW's. Popstoy on miataforum, and Scott Maclean, got >160 whp NA. In Scott's case, this was with the stock '94 intake, and he plans to turbo.
They charged me $800 for my 6-cylinder M3 head, for a valve job + head work. Result is +30 cfm flow (+15%), which is good for +45hp on a 6-cyl.
I then sent my cams to Dema Elgin www.elgincams.com
He will take the flow numbers from Rebello and do a custom grind. $450.
Call Dema and chat with him about what profiles would work on a VVT head.

I was actually pondering doing something similar to what you did as far as DIY port jobs go. It's definitely not $800....
do you still have your collection of educational materials for DIY porting?

I'm sending Tom @ Parts Group my car over the winter.... just to have the head done.
should be just around..... oh, well... I won't say how much it will cost. lol
And he is a great guy to deal with. Has great prices, parts and service. Sometimes he spends an hour just to tell you which valves are better and why over the other ones.
