So what're the latest recommendations for HID conversion kits for a 2000 with factory lamps?

Just about every link to a vendor in this thread is a 404 lol.

I'm pretty convinced by Abe's review, but for one thing - can you actually see further out? This article points out that a brighter foreground without proportionately brighter light in the distance causes your pupils to close down, reducing the distance you can see:

I'm impatient.

I bought a 35W BiXenon (hi and low both HID) kit from ebay seller obdmart. This seller price ranges from cheap with shipping to $66 with free shipping, all for the same total price. I chose free shipping in case I want to return it.

H4 bulb type fits miatas and I chose 4300K for maximum light. Higher is bluer and stands out but is less bright.

obdmart is the ebay store of Chinese manufacturer VVME. They seem to be a big manufacturer. They sell from their website vvme.com but the total cost with shipping was higher. VVME have 3 stores on ebay. Obdmart was the one labeled ships from USA lol.

Interested to hear how they work for you. I am considering a set for my car, especially the next time my overpriced Sylvania Silverstars burn out. HIDs are only a bit more expensive these days so why not?

Exactly the same thing.
BTW I went with 35W isntead of 55W due to reports of failures of 55 watters due to heat.

I've bought a few HID kits from that same seller. I fried the ballast in one of them too and got a free replacement. Very good to deal with.

Jason, Sorry I missed this thread! Yeah - mine have been good - 50W version. You can see way way way further. There's almost no such thing as something being too far to see.

The only issue I have had is white road signs - there are a few, especially in places where they are at odd angles, like right out of a driveway, where they DO reflect so much you have trouble seeing. But I adjust my lights so they are even with the trunk/window line on most cars at a reasonable following distance, and I don't **** people off.

I thought my ballasts were going bad (the bike and the car started flickering/failing to turn on in the same week!) after only a year, but it turned out that charging the batteries completely fixed all three vehicles. I haven't had an issue since, plus it's a great way to tell if a battery is getting low. :-P

I received my order.
Appears to be pretty high quality.
Powered up on the bench, seems fine.
It'll be a few days before I install it, because I have a painful knee due to injury therapy.

Finally got 'round to installing 'em.

My low beams and high beams are good though I have some shadows in my low beams.

My problem is they have "the shakes". Anyone else had this problem?
I will go look into it.

I bought this in 4300K. They have and ebay store "sinomedia":

http://www.vvme.com/standard-h439003...cPath=44_46_35

4300K color is between halogen and "white" so it's a slightly yellowish white. It also has the highest perceived illumination of the available colors.

They have 2 more 12V versions:
http://www.vvme.com/bixenon-hid-conv...-44_46_35.html

And their "Hi/Low" (hi beam is halogen) kits:

Since thread was bumped I'd like to update that mine are still doing great working with no problems.
Bought 2 sets for a friend and both came in with 1 ballast defective on each set.
Got them exchanged and all is well.

So they're def a hit and miss, but mine are still GRRRREAT
