Hey, thepass, very nice looking car. Im diggin the wheels, the lights, mirrors, and headlight lid scoop. Not so much the bodykit since to me it looks to futuristic for a nostalgic car imo. That headlight mod is a very very good idea btw. You really took off 25lbs with that? wow is a good chunk and since it's way out front, thats a good place to loose it.

akaryrye - Thanks for the compliments. I'm a fan of newer styled cars and personally love more extreme looks like the Garage Vary widebody and stuff - I realize I stray from the classic look that so many love about the miata but for me it works. Plus designing/molding it all was a great oportunity to improve my fiberglass work.
Yes I pulled out 25 lbs - you would be surprised what the motors and metal structures that swivel up all add up to. The headlight scoop is made from ABS and is held up by light aluminum braces and the other factory lid is just the oem cover held up again by aluminum struts so the whole motorized headlight assembly is out. The PIAA's weighed maybe 5 lbs so I saved ~20 lbs.

it would be pretty sweet to somehow get the hood modified to take out the headlight lids altogher eh? I bet with a little bit of bending, seam welding, grinding and body filler it could be done

That could be pretty cool. In the thread on miata.net that VRTSid linked to, they talked about the possibility of eliminating the covers too. The hood turbopezz linked to is SICK - that would the ultra clean, and would save the most weight. However, I really wanted the headlight scoop I made because it will plumb directly into a cold air box for the turbo that is going in in the next 6 months... although hey, one could always modify the ISC hood.

Pass.... that's definately a sweet mod. <G> I remember seeing the picture, and thought... that's something to upgrade too.

Now, I've done the KT light mod... around 5 years ago now. <G>

The 9006 fit OK, just remember to keep a spare around. They always seem to die when I'm on the way to the gap....

The side markers are just either little 914, or 916s... or you can upgrade to LEDs (which is what I'm going to do I think). I've added mine to the DRL circuit... to have them come on automatically, like they are supposed to.

The only thing I wish, is the 9006 were "switched". I have been planning on getting up under the dash to add a factory cruise/fog switch, so I can use it to turn the 9006 off.

Yeah, I just found that thread. If you used the factory lens and sanded/polished the inside it'd look really pimp.

I tried sanding a spare set I had lying around and it is a real PITA. I bought these instead:

While I dig ThePass' sunk housings, you could gut these "altezza" style housings and only use the clear front part and make a nice flush mount with the PIAA lights.

Well crap... I just bought another set of OEMs to sand the inside down on...

Anyone want to buy a set of OEM turn signals?

steelrat 02-12-2007 12:11 PM

Splitime.... PM me, I might be interested. I had a spare set, but I think I donated one to another car.... And unfortunately mine have gotten some small cracks in the lens now, so I'd be interested.....
