Default Help/advice on head removal and rebuild...

Hey guys,

I haven't been on here since i failed the emissions test 3x and drove her back into the old garage

But I finally found some time to start the head removal procedure to have it rebuilt so I can get her up and running again and can (hopefully) pass emissions and finally install the Greddy kit...

So I have a few questions about removing the head. I have everything apart except for getting the manifold off, and getting the T belt off to pull the head.

Can I remove the T belt on the short nose 1.6L with out removing the crank pulley? I am pretty sure I read somewhere that that is possible, but it doesn't seem like that is the case (i do plan on installing new belt)

When they rebuild a head typically what is done, and what needs to be done?

Should I do anything else to the head itself or engine while it is apart?

Can I port+polish anything myself?

Thanks for the help.

you can in the least take it off the cam pullies and pull the head once it's over the thermostate housing. no need to remove it completely anyways.

once off, you can replace the head gasket, and get a valve job and whatnot.

Thanks,

I want to change the belt while it is apart so i think i will have to pull the crank pulley to get the old belt off, i just hate to do it on the short nose, even though I recently changed the bolt and key...

I was actually looking at Hakunas site the other day, I'm not sure if i am comfortable polishing myself...has anyone done this themselves? any tips?

Also does anyone know what a typical valve job entails??

Thanks again,
