Help Faeflora Pick a new Turbo
#21
Well given your luck I would definitely get a journal bearing turbo so the CHRA is rebuildable.
I say Borg Warner, an S262 or S362 I think(their naming conventions cornfuse me) are the GT35 equivalents and are generally a little under 1K. Better deal than a used GT35.
You might be able to find a used FP red for relatively cheap but I don't know about the flange.

ATP thought that the turbo could have been starved of oil.
Blouch disagreed. :|
Current plan of action is to remove the restrictor and put it back on the car and see how happy it is. Also to remove the one little burr on my compressor blade.

Final result was my turbo was just fine. I just was unfamiliar with what 20psi sounded like on a ball bearing turbo. Or any turbo.
So here we go I am going to upgrade my **** because I am not spinning my tires in 5th gear. I cannot live without 600hp. I figured that I would threadsurrect since well, this thread is appropriate for the discussion.
This is the turbo I am looking at:
Borg Warner 177283
63mm inducer
68mm turbine
.88 A/R T4 turbine housing
$635 dollars ************* from some farm supply shop lol
I figure that I will slap that bitch on and see how it does. I am guessing it will spool up and hit 20psi by 5000RPM. My guess is that I will not like that so much but who knows, maybe it will make more power under the curve than my GT3071 because of the massive flow capabilities. IF I am dissatisfied, I will pick up the .91 housing for a whopping $125 LOL and get a quick spool valve.
I think that for a total price of $1100 or so I can have super awesomeness.
BTW I ended up deciding on the 63mm wheel because that's comfortably in the midrange of the turbo. I think with a 66mm, it would spool too slowly, and at this point in time I don't have plans for more than 600hp. Hope I don't regret those words, but honestly, I think my mazda standard miata bearings will die at some point.

not a terrible choice and certainly a great deal. i am just getting into reading about your build and i must say i do like the route you are taking, had i stumbled upon this soner i would have suggested a billet wheel journal bearing 6262 precision, the billet wheel turbos with a journal bearing spool faster then the older ball bearing cast wheel gt35rs. My good friend has a k20 powered 2000 civic si and he just swapped a gt35r for a new 6765 and the difference is absolutely incredible, those hondas do have a lil something to aid in spool times though lol. VTEC= full boost.

Genuinely think you have something wrong with you where you can't just enjoy your car for what it is, and that you enjoy working on it and planning other things than being happy with what you have.
Of course I mean that in a non dick head way.
Never the less, it's entertaining to watch!
