How fast have you gone?
Im really curious about what the top speed you guys have gone in your miata.
I also would like to know the top speed on the stock miata NA 1.8l and the 99-00 NB models as well. And of course turbo'd and just upgraded cars in general. thanks |
until the ecu stopped me like where 115? top speed doesn't tickle my pickle :td:
|
ive done ~125mph on my miata w/ megasquirt and turbo.
overall i topped 145mph (fuel cutoff limited) in mercedes i had ~4 years ago |

|
i've hit the top of 5th in both my miata and 240, both stopped around 120 with some left
|
I made 130mph or so at 170rwhp.
|
I went 95 in a prius....
did you know there's a button to change the speedo from mph to kph? confusing for a few minutes in a rental car. |
Approx 110mph before the limiter cut in.
Car is a Jap import & limited to 180kph (easy to fix that, just can't be bothered tbh) I read a similar thread recently & with the gearing we have 120-130mph is about the limit. generally. |
There was never a limit put on anymiata speedo ever that i have ever known off most 1.6's and 1.8's top out in the 110-123 mph range lightly modified or unmodded. Turboed i can snap on 140 or so pretty easy when i have high boost going. But i don't have roads to handle that kinda speed here so i generally stay aroun 120 or so if i wanna wind it out.
|
hm, then maybe my little miata was chuggin along at its fastest :dunno:
|
ive been around 130 in my turbo miata. i was racing my friend in his BMW and smoked him at a 80mph roll i shifted into 4th and he didn't even come close to my car after that lol i beat him by a good half a football feild away
|
havent really gone too fast in a miata... but hows 167mph in a B5 S4... before his stage 3 K04 upgrade..
(not me driving) |
145 on the long straight at Moroso road course in a 2006 Z06. Same straight in my car with the JRSC@180 rwhp, 110-112
|
went 180km/h in my miata only have an intake and borlacat back, and high-flow cat everything else stock :bigtu:
edit: opps forgot the headers;) |
only done about 100 in the miata, but it was still pulling hard. did and indicated 175 on my 02 zx9r, and indicated 167 on my 06 gixxer 600, both were also still slowly pulling
|
probably around 110-120, i rarely get on the highway so i usually keep my speeds under 80mph on regular roads
|
about 130, a little under was still pulling a little(almost redlined though).. blew off a charge pipe. I went 118 stock motor topping out my 1.6 just about.
|
i just did 120 in 4th on the dyno.
on the road i've had the car up to 140ish if you wanna know what models will do what max speed in each gear use this page http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/ you have to full in tire size, gearings, and your diff ratio(final drive) you can get gearing info at http://members.aol.com/solomiata/Drivetrain.html final drive ratios: 90-93 - 4.30 94-97 - 4.10 99+ 5 speed - 4.30 99+ 6 speed - 3.90 MSM - 3.90 (i think) before you wanna question my 120mph in 4th on the dyno: 5 speed with 3.90, 215/45/15. |
with fresh oil change i hit 135 6th gear at around 6600 rpm in my 03 stock miata there was no cutoff switch it just wouldn't go anywere and there was no more highway space
|
125 na 99 miata, with header and exhaust, intake.
Took me all day to get there. With my car now it doesnt take long at all. I have seen 130 thus far.. top speed doesnt do shit for me. Its getttingto about 100 that Ilike alot. Its all about getting there.. |
miata: rev limit in 5th with a 4.30:1 rear.
others: ~200 in a b production vette (no speedo, actual unknown) 170+ on a couple different sportbikes 150 in my E Class, and it was pulling when it hit the limiter. |
191 Km/hr, aka 118.8 mph on a closed course, GPS verified. Still pulling, stock with megasquirt + intake, ran out of room.
Fastest was 270 km/hr (168mph) in the back of an S-class. Felt like 60mph. |
I hit pretty close to 128 in the 95, Speedo Indicated 140 in the Speed Miata, hit fuel cut in the speed6 at 154mph I believe (Scary) and topped out my bike at 161mph (Gps). At that speed, 14,300rpm off the redline in sixth gear will eat 3 gallons of fuel in around 20 miles with my tune. Top end run I'm side by side with stock 2005 600RR. Don't ride on the street anymore.
|
After reading these posts, I now can understand why my Miata could not go faster than 113mph in the quarter mile. I was hitting some great times up through the eighth mile, but then it felt like it was hitting a wall. I had the stock ECU then and It never got quicker than a 14.2 sec quarter no matter what I did. I ran three runs, 14.7, 14.6, and 14.2 all at 113 mph. With the E manage I hope it will run a little faster in the top end.

indicated 128 stock... i haven't run it past 100 with the turbo, I'm not as young and stupid these days and haven't been on a track with it post turbo.
|
in my opinion there is no point in going over 120mph unless you drag race
|
Ran out of gear in these:
1986 Pontiac Feiro SE (4 cyl) - 132 or so, judged from tach 1977 Kawasaki KZ1000 - 150-155, short gears, but it gets there *QUICK* with 215+ hp, even without a fairing 1989 Suzuki Katana 750 - probably 145-150 range? 1987 Pontiac Feiro (4 cyl) - 132 or so, judged from tach ~2006 (rental) Ford Cargo Van: 99.9, GPS verified rev limiter. Just to see if it had one. Owned, but never made it to redline in top in these: 1979 Suzuki GS400 - 110 once, got pulled over, the cop asked me how fast I was going, and I really, really wanted to tell him cause I was SO proud. 1989 Kawasaki Ninja 600 - Er, just never felt the need? Quick for what it was 1984 Honda Magna. Are you kidding? That was scary in a parking lot. Also it wouldn't top like 60 unless you downshifted to get past the flat spot in the midrange. 1998 Honda SuperHawk. Huge wobblies at like 70-120 depending on the day. I'm sure it would go pretty quick though

the miata feels like it would need some major downforce at those speeds, over 100 it wants to take off
|
an undertray, vented hood, and r pack lip will help keep the front down.
|
Most I've ever done was 130 in a buddies mustang and 120 in my own miata and a buddies 944.

hit 105 the 1st day i owned my miata on the GSP 1990 stock 1.6l with 157000 on the clock...took forever lol
|
wow, i dont get it, i hit 135mph (lol on my first date with my girlfriend in a skirt and me in a suit and tie lol)in my turbo miata 1.6L with the stock 5spd transmission, and i was at 5000rpm, the only reason i let up is because i saw a cop (i was street racing on the highway)

125 indicated in Miata before turbo
140+ indicated in Miata after turbo 143 indicated on a CBR600F4i 130ish indicated in some small Piper plane I got to fly when I was 7 |
Indicated 120mph, probably closer to 115mph. 7000rpm indicated in 4th, shift to 5th, and a few seconds on the gas in 5th. I haven't found the road and the situation where I've felt comfortable pushing past 120 yet, although last night was pretty close (empty 3-lane bridge with concrete walls on both sides).
The car gets there quick. It's just a nice, smooth pull all the way to redline in 4th. I bet it would pull decently hard in 5th, I've just never tried. Preturbo, indicated 117mph downhill with the top down Not my driving, 140mph+ riding shotgun in a Stage 2 STI |
Sigh. Gearing is one of those things I've ALWAYS wanted to do to the car. It's SO LOW. The number of times I've done freeway pulls with Big Gun cars, and had to back out when I'm lengths ahead at 130 because I'm hitting the redline is... high.
Of course, with getting rid of the piggy link, meaning the rev limiter is a real rev limiter (not just losing some percentage of my fuel suddenly) means at least I can take it there without worry. I've got the 3.6 gears in a box, but I want to get a 6 speed. Of course, then I'll still have a top speed of like 142, but that's a lot better - and probably as fast as I want to go in anything with so many wheels? |
As far as I'm concerned, if I am anything more than a length ahead at 100+, I've won. The race ends when the winner lifts.

Ive hit around 120 and it will go no further.
|
147 GPS indicated/confirmed.
|
110mph in a stock 1.6 and 160mph down a country road in FL in a mustang (as a passenger)
|
~115 or so in the stockish miata...
Riding = 160-165ish in a supercharged SS Camaro...while beating up on a bike :) |
120 in my miata with your std bolt on enhancers for 1.6l. and no further, stayed there for about 4 mi. Fastest stuff....
My 1987 Vfr--indicated 156 mph. My 1997 Eclipse GS-turbo kitted--167+ broke the speedo at 167 Soon after building a 632hp Supra--202. using the "ATL Autobahn" GA400 @3:30am. |

I take exception to that one Abe. :crx: I've hit 135-140 on mine mostly stock the front end gets pretty light past 115 though. You must have been riding a v40-45 wich are heavy turds jump on a well prepped v30 like mine or a good v65 and you will surely be able to tell the difference.
I guess I was just too used to, you know, 1960's bikes which were well engineered. Ha. Oh, I will say one thing - the ONLY bike to ever keep up with me on this really twist, 100+ mph 6 mile road on the way home is a late 80's (early 90's?) yamaha virgo 1100 which this old guy with a big grey beard KNOWS HOW TO DRIVE. It's amazing. Your average R6 doesn't give me any trouble, and the litre bikes admitedly are a handful but generally don't hang in the turns. But this guy is amazing. It's unrealistic, like watching a harley in a videogame. Just doesn't look right. Oh, I forgot another one. My friend's Dodge Omni GLH turbo. At around 150, the antena, which had been bending and bending, snapped off. Another time on my kawi I got going so fast a side panel blew off. :-) |

Yeah - I feel that way too. But somehow, when I try to convince myself of that, especially when there's plenty left in the motor and the other guy (for some reason) stays in it hitting 150 after catching up to my brakelights... I feel like a pussy.

145mph indicated by my Garmin in my Miata.
165-170?+ mph riding in a friend's RX7. In south GA, there are stretches of freeway that are straight, flat, and empty. :) ~550mph while flight training in a Citation X. |
140 in my Miata preturbo. That was on 95 in MD between 495 and 695. Long straight road. It took about 3 minutes to get up there :P. 130mph postturbo. The car has lots of upforce at those speeds :(. 120mph in my 1985 benz 300D turbo. Took about 10 minutes to get up there :(. 150mph in a 99 Nissan Altima GXE. Set the cruise at 140mph for 3 hours until I almost hit a coyote. 125mph in a 94 mustang gt convertible for 4 hours on 95 VA to MA. Top down that was it's top speed. I wasn't driving that time tho.

110 in a 3/4 ton Chevy Express van... 11 seater... ECU cuts fuel at 100 but the tires were 10 percent larger. Talk about scary...
I haven't gone over 100 in the Miata. |
115 in the 91 stock Miata, ticketed at 109 in a 65 another time
118 in the F150 127 in an RX7 150 on the CBR 1000 |
120 in the Miata... 150mph in a 350z. I love the way the Miata drives because it reminds me of the Z in some ways (and in many it is better), but I just wish the Miata could do those kinds of speeds and be stable. In the Z it just felt like 80 or 90.
|
I raced a turbo civic si on the highway from 80-130 (he shifted, i kept it in 5th and i walked him like he was standing still... it pulls hard in 5th, or at least mine does. in a straight line no downhill...
I have a test where i live, its a huge hill you climb, i round the corner at 50 and then hit the gas... every car ive driven up it climbs to about 85-90 and then loses speed... i took my miata up it and hit 100 before it started to ireally get steep, and it just walked right up it still gaining speed... zo6 made it up at 97mph(fastest and then fell off) miata pulled to 115 and then i had to lift, otherwise it would be somewhere in the woods in another town.

None of these bikes were stock, the slowest in the bunch pulled 9.8 in the quarter mile...... A157mph 1997 Z28 Camero. 157mph 1987 GT 5.0. That car got LIGHTTTTT! 160 MPH in a friends 350 hp SS Impala.... I had to grow up so I've switched to a Miata that i bought a Turbo for!! HAHAHHAHAA!!!!! I just don't need top end. |
ive actually got a 90 miata and did the 1.8 swap in it!
so far ive taken it to about 125-130mph in my N/A, im hoping to gain on that soon when i add my turbo. |
