As the title states I'm considering changing the drivers seat fabric or the entire seat (I have headrest speakers I want to keep). Is changing the fabric harder than a top install? I've done a bit of boat upholstery but that mostly involves stapling.

No I'm not changing to racing or leather seats, the former aren't comfy enough IMO and the latter are uncomfortable unless you aren't in the sun and have great AC. I also want to keep the style of seats I have (97).

 

if you can do the top replacement this should be fairly easy for you. just take your time and make sure you have more than one pair of needle nose pliers

Thanks guys, it looks like it's mostly hog rings to bend so my new pliers set will get some use.

 

Yeah the hog rings are a pita, I usually just cut them. I use zipties instead of the hr's when reassembling.

 

Just buy a sweet tinkerbell cover from walmart. Done.

 

Remove seat, install bean bag, **** bitches.

 

I've done six to install seat heaters. Not much to it, just take your time. Don't try to re-use the hog rings and be gentle pulling the old ones out or you'll rip the retaining rods out of the foam. I used a good set of needle nose, for the bad ones just cut with side cutters. If the seats are more than a couple of years old the foam will be split in a few places, especially the door-side bolsters. Use some hot melt on those badboys.

For re-install use zip ties - I found light duty 8 inch ones are best so you're not dicking around trying to find the end of a short bitch. Thread all of the ties in to the foam first before putting the cover on.
