This thread has inspired me to actually build one of these. A long time ago my friend got a shock setup for like 10 bucks from some tard on m.net..
Took the brackets off, looked them over, measured them up and changed a few things... never cut them out. His are steel, I'm planning on 1/8" aluminum myself.

If you take your time things will go very smooth. The walkthru is very detailed, and may look like a mess now, but will come in handy while ur actually doing it (i'd hope).
Gonna take it to work today, so I'll let u guys now of any issues (looking for ratlling and turbo heat issues). Its far enough from the turbo I'm sure to not have problems, and the hood sits flush, no gaps at all...so I'm not expecting anything

Just an fyi for whoever is still following along..
Took it for a nice romp on the highway to work and all is well. No unusual sounds, vibrations, rattling, etc etc... Shock holds up fine, same as day I put it on...
Now onto more important issues to address (cooling & brakes)

What shocks are you guys using I'm tryin to do a budget 2 shock lift using junkyard parts any leads to what the model number or a car that woul have the right sized shocks I have a single shock but it's way to strong and my hood stays open an inch just from the force of the shock pushing against it
