I have an important decision to make and I would like your help.
Voted big turbo BP cause it's easier, but I too would have picked-all out 1uzfe as mentioned before. Do the valvetrain and rev it to 9K. Nothing wrong with LSx motors this would just be different and therefore cooler.
my vote went for big turbo 1.8 based build...
but in reality, the path of least resistance to your goal might be a v8.
i just voted for what i'd like to see. :-)
FE should be an option if you're thinking of doing it as a turbo 4 cyl. though.

I actually vote for BMW inline 6 M20 motor with "i" head and "e" 2.7L bottom end.
And if it doesn't fit, stretch the nose like the Jerarri:

I voted for the v8 because it was the easiest way to make 450hp. That was before I scrolled down and saw that you wanted to build it yourself.
I would go back and change to turbo VVT knowing the rest of the story now. It will have better cruising around mileage and will be far more fun to drive. Give the Greeks something to marvel at...

Just got this motor turned over last week on MSII. Previous dyno was 380+whp and 460~wtq
