Voted big turbo BP cause it's easier, but I too would have picked-all out 1uzfe as mentioned before. Do the valvetrain and rev it to 9K. Nothing wrong with LSx motors this would just be different and therefore cooler.

6-banger ftw, how many 6-swaps is there? How many has got turbos? Cool idea, and unusual.

Why no 2.0L FE option?

I voted for the turbo 1.8.

Under one condition though. That you use your talent to make the most awesome ******* setup we've seen thus far for it.

Turbo miataes FTW!!!

my vote went for big turbo 1.8 based build...

but in reality, the path of least resistance to your goal might be a v8.

i just voted for what i'd like to see. :-)

FE should be an option if you're thinking of doing it as a turbo 4 cyl. though.

V8, will be less stressed and if it's LSx it'll probably get just as good gas mileage as turbo (rmcelwee states his gets 30mpg interstate).

Edit: Wish I had gone V8

Tim I voted for big turbo 1.8. Are you going to come down for the dyno day? I can give you a ride in my car with the new setup if you'd like.

I actually vote for BMW inline 6 M20 motor with "i" head and "e" 2.7L bottom end.

And if it doesn't fit, stretch the nose like the Jerarri:

Considering my biggest issue on the highway at 65-70 is cam surge with 6-9% throttle usage, I could see that being EASILY attained.

I voted for the v8 because it was the easiest way to make 450hp. That was before I scrolled down and saw that you wanted to build it yourself.

I would go back and change to turbo VVT knowing the rest of the story now. It will have better cruising around mileage and will be far more fun to drive. Give the Greeks something to marvel at...

You mean like this? Only problem I can think of is the weight. Other than that...no cons, really.

Just got this motor turned over last week on MSII. Previous dyno was 380+whp and 460~wtq

LS1. There is a reason people put LS1s in everything.

I think you'll end up with a lot of "big turbo Miata" answers. We're kind of a biased crowd here..
