Default I laughed a little when I typed "Head Nipple Boss" into the search box...

... but I didn't find what I was looking for.

How does one remove the round fitting with the right angle nipple at the back of the head on a 1.8 which feeds the oil cooler? Is it press-fit?

Stolen pic for reference:

I think I want to remove that and tap the hole for 1/2 NPTF to go to a -10AN.

Yep, press fit. I removed mine with a pair of vice grips. Make sure to seal whatever you put back in there well or it will leak. Loctite retaining compound works well.

Just for posterity, I'll update this thread to say that it was a huge pain in the *** removing the head nipple boss, involving pipe wrenches, hack saws, drills, and all many other implements of destruction. "Press fit" is an understatement.
