OP congrats, I once got a (mazda) car to pass that was tested as an egr equipped 1.6 but really had a no egr 1.8, turbo, race cat, 360cc, no emissions equipment (charcoal etc) and a jdm factory ecu (read nowhere near emissions friendly). So I know how good it must feel.

A couple of my friends who own Hondas passed last year on stock equipment and no cat, so I knew it was possible. I just figured I'd give it a shot because had I failed, the second test was free anyway, and I would have just thrown on a cat.

It was a good feeling when I passed too. In Oregon it's free until you pass, and then it's $21. I still think we should make a MS emissions friendly settings thread. I think the timing and tuning for 15.3ish afr is what helped me. I was surprised how hard it was to maintain 14.7 exactly at idle, as well as how much engine temperature affects idle rpm, putting it in a different part of the fuel map.

lol tell em its hydrogen hybrid car that doesnt need a cat. Its proven that by adding hydrogen to the combustion chamber, everything burns complete therefore almost no unburned gasses out the tail pipe, you can add a bit more fuel to lower NOx. Oh wait that wont work the gov is too stupid to keep their testing facilities up to date. Currently they have electric cars failing because they have no tail pipe. My fav is the prius and honda hybrid failing since the motor is designed to turn off if its not used and the electric motor can supply the power.

TX has higher inspection fees than most (all?) other places I've lived, but WA has a higher state gasoline tax. The states will get their money out of you and your car, one way or the other. Especially WA where you get a lot of car-hating hippies elected to public office. Any of you guys have to pay that ******* monorail surtax they had in Seattle ~5 years ago?
I agree, and one of you guys who has already passed smog with MS should start it. As often as this comes up it should probably be under the "Super Important Megasquirt Threads" IMO. Describe the conditions of the test (idle and/or whatever speed they have you on the rollers, how many rpm if you remember), post the target AFR and ignition timing you used, and your results compared to the allowable limits. I have a pretty good idea of what settings will work (AFR 14.7-15.0 and conservative timing) but if we get 5 or 6 guys to post their results that should be enough to establish a range of settings that are confirmed to pass.

I have to get some emissions friendly settings and get my idle under control. It idles anywhere from 1800-3000rpm and won't go down. Bouncing off the rev limiter at 900rpm, with no throttle application, probably won't work for the test.
Oh and testing is $38 first try $18 second try then the cycle resets and your back at $38, it gets pricey fast if you don't know whats wrong.

Dear lord, that's a really high idle. Check for massive intake leaks in the intake manifold, and if your throttle cable is bound up. There's a rubber plug blocking a big vacuum port on the back of the intake manifold, you must have a massive leak.
